Don't Grow Up

"Finally," you huffed shutting the door behind you, "if I never have to read that fox book again it'll be too soon." 
"She'll have a new favorite soon enough." your husband reasoned winding his mechanical arm around your waist and pulling your back flush against his warm torso. 
"Says the guy who isn't stuck reading to her every night." you dodged his lips as he leaned in for a playful kiss. 
"C'mon mouse," he grumbled tightening his grip, "Don't leave me high and dry before you're gone for the weekend." 
"Awe, how can I resist if you're begging?" you chuckled turning to meet his serious glare. 
"Who's begging?"
"Don't leave me high and dry." you mocked tapping his nose eliciting a low growl from the redhead. 

Giggles bubbled up your throat as he scooped you up and tossed you into the mattress. Pushing his way between your legs he ran his hands over your thighs, stopping at your ass to give it a good hard squeeze. 

"Kid!" you gasped. 

A mischievous smirk tugged at his lips while he leaned over, tawny eyes watching you squirm beneath him. 

"Daddy!" a tiny voice squeaked from the next room halting all movement in yours. 

"If we're perfectly still she'll ignore us and go back to sleep." He whispered muscles frozen, hands in mid grope. 
"She's a toddler not a t-rex." you swatted at him. 
"Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!“ the little voice called without faltering. 

Kid slouched back withdrawing his arms, "You'll get your punishment later." 
"I'm shaking~" you tossed a pillow at him as he made his way to the door. 

The child relentlessly called for Kid as he entered the hallway and crossed to her door.

"What is it monkey?" He asked meeting her desperate two toned gaze. 
"Monshter." the three year old muttered as he turned on the lamp on her dresser and bent over the bed. 
"And what makes you think that?“ he plopped down next to her running his fingers through her wavy crimson hair. 
She leaned in motioning for Kid to come closer as if how she discovered the monster was a secret, "There was a bump." 
"A bump?" he echoed knowing what she heard was the two of you fooling around across the hall. 

Normally you turned on music for her at night to avoid this very situation, but in your haste to get away from the fox book you forgot. He gently cupped her little heart shaped face and gazed into her green and amber eyes. If he ever for a moment thought you made him weak, this perfect mixture of the two of you that sat before him would definitely be the death of him. 

"I sleep wis you." she stated wiggling free and kicking her blankets aside. 
"I'll give you ten bucks and an extra monster sweep, under the bed included, if you stay in your bed tonight." he offered her his right pinky finger intending to seal the deal. 
"Daddy." the toddler called sternly. 
"Beni." he replied matching her tone.
"No deal." she shook her head and scooped up her favorite plushy, a purple dragon Killer had given her when she was born. 
"You're just like your mother." he grumbled pulling her into his chest and rising to leave the room. 

You were sitting cross-legged in the bed when your redheads entered. 

"Sleep over?" 
"There was a monster apparently." Kid rumbled.
"There was, daddy." Beni pushed herself back in his hold to look him in the eye. 
"Ok ok. We'll take care of it tomorrow." he assured placing her on the bed.

You woke up snuggling Beni's plushy while she was curled up against her father's chest. Those two were best friends from the start. When she cried the only way to silence her was to give her to Kid. Of course that was a major ego boost, as if his ego needed anymore boosting. Owning the shop with Killer allowed him more free time than your teaching job, so when you went back to work full time they bonded. It'd be a lie to say you weren't a bit jealous. Mom was supposed to be the favorite right? That jealousy was short lived. Beni brought out a side of Kid that you had only caught glimpses of. He could be gentle and sweet sure, but she brought on a softness and curiousness that you just didn’t evoke in him.
