I looked up at a black raven as she crowed wildly. I laid my arm out towards the raven as it landed powerfully on it. I have seen this raven before when I was younger, she was like my guardian angel, I had named her the name that had gotten itself stuck in the middle of my mind, Ethys, but this time, she had a note which was carried in her long beak.
I pet Ethys's head softly as she dropped the note to the ground. "Ethys!" I groaned, complaining. I bent down to pick the letter up as it unraveled itself. Ethys flapped away as my eyes glued to the writing.
I was awed.
I read it, trying to fit in all this information in my small mind, failing miserably to recite it without looking. "Ethys!" I yelled, but the raven was already gone.
My so-called 'birth mother' if I even had one, was part of a Rebel group, that was trying to kill and overthrow the mayor of New York. I couldn't believe it, my 'mother' had just asked me, on my thirteenth birthday, to do something against the law.
I didn't know what else to do, so I decided to search for this 'Kestrel,' or 'small falcon,' But how? Would I have to go door to door? Go to every place in New York, the letter didn't have any instructions so I thought that's what I had to do. I sighed, this was going to be a long day.
Once dusk fell, I had been searching for twelve hours, Ethys came to me, squawking. "Ethys!" I yelled, calling her over to me. The black raven landed on my arm again, her lavender eyes wild and hands clawing, scratching on my arm, cutting it. "Ethys, where is this...Kestrel." the bird tensed for a while, as if scared of the boy. Then she went flying off. "Ethys!" I yelled and ran after her.

The raven led me to an apartment which was made of glass. She flew up to at least the tenth story and looked down at me. I groaned.
Walking upstairs to go to where Ethys was, I tripped over my feet a lot, exhausted. When I knocked at the door, on the tenth level, a boy opened it, looking exhausted and annoyed, eyes narrowed. "Are you small falcon?" I asked, hoping Ethys was right, the boy just pulled me into the room.
