"DJ? Wala ka bang balak gumising?" Daniel's Mama Min muttered softly as she tugged Daniel's loose shirt.
"Ma, Saturday naman eh. Saka, wala po akong homework." Daniel replied coldly as he buried his head under the pillow.
"Eh, special day pa naman ngayon..."
Daniel wasn't looking on his mom's face, but he could tell she had that same old smirk on her face.
"Di mo ako maloloko, 'ma. Di naman special day ngayon ah." He mumbled.
"Uy, totoo tong sinasabi ko, ha!" His mom chuckled.
Daniel rolled his eyes from under the pillow. "Sige nga, kung special na araw nga 'to. Anong meron?"
There was a pause.
"Ma!" Daniel removed the pillow form over his head and sat up, facing his mom.
"Babalik na si Kathryn." She said with a beam.
All of a sudden, Daniel smiled widely. "Talaga, ma? Anong oras dating niya? Malapit na ba? Naku, makaligo na nga. Sige, later na lang tayo mag-usap ma! Ligo na po ako!"
His mom watched him run from his bed to the bathroom. "Itong si DJ talaga. Kahit kailan. Basta si Kath na pinag-uusapan, nabubuhay na yung katawang lupa." She shook her head laughingly and left Daniel's room.
"Leather jacket, check. Cool na pabango, check. Waxed na buhok, check. Vans na sapatos, check. At syempre, bracelet na bigay ni Kath, check."
Daniel looked at himself at the mirror loads of times. "Okay na 'to. Pasado na." He told himself before leaving for the breakfast table where his mom, dad, Ate Roanna, and his siblings JC, Carmella, and Magui sat. Daniel noticed they were dressed in outdoor attires, too.
"Good morning, ma, pa." Daniel greeted, breaking the silence.
"Mukhang masayang masaya ka yata, ah." His ate Roanna commented jokingly.
"Oo nga, kuya, why? Is it because that Kathryn girl will be going home na?" Carmella asked as she glanced over her tall kuya, who was seated behind her.
"Kathryn. Kathryn lang, okay? Ate Kathryn dapat itawag mo sa kanya." He replied with a smile.
His daddy Rommel shook his head ans whispered to his mom, "Itong anak mo talaga."
Later on, their family arrived at the airport.
"Um, mga 30 minutes pa before darating sina Kath." Mama Karla said, glancing at her watch.
Carmella and Magui sighed. "Mama, I want ice cream." Magui complained.
"Okay, go buy ice cream with Kuya JC, ha? Tapos balik kayo agad ASAP para makita niyo si Ate Kath niyo." Their mom said, handing JC the money for ice cream before the three walked away.
"Ma, tingin lang po ako sa souvenir shop diyan banda." His ate Roanna excused and walked over to the souvenir shop he was talking about.
"Ikaw, DJ, wala ka bang pupuntahan?" His dad asked with a smile.
Daniel shook his head. "Wala po, dad. Dito na muna ako. Aantayin ko po si Kath."
He just got a nod and a reassuring smile from his dad as a reply.
30 minutes passed. Carmella, Magui, and JC wero now back from eating ice cream. Roanna was back as well, with a big smile on her face, pleased with the bracelet and a pair of danglings she bought. Meanwhile, DJ was getting impatient.
"Ayan na sila, oh!"
Sa wakas, nakarating na rin! Daniel thought.
Daniel waited, and waited and waited...
Until he saw her. Yes, Kathryn.
Daniel's heartbeat seems to quicken its pace.
"Kath!" He yelled to get Kathryn's attention, and even waved his hands.
Kathryn looked at him, and then looked away.
Bat ganun? Daniel asked himself.
Daniel watched closer, closer. And then he saw such astonishng sight.
Kathryn had a guy carry her bags, and she was laughing along with him. The both of them seemed like...best friends.
Ha? Di maaari. Di sisirain ni Kath ang promize niya. Daniel told himself.
"Karla!" Kathryn's mom greeted Daniel's mom with a kiss on the cheek. "Grabe, di ka parin nagbago!"
Daniel's mom blushed. "Ikaw talaga."
Daniel's siblings were busy chatting with Kath's siblings, as for Daniel, he stared at Kathryn and the mystery guy he's with.
"So...kamusta si Kath?" Daniel heard his mom ask, making him shift his attention to them.
Kath's mom sighed. "Ayun, okay naman. May naaalala na rin."
"Ha? Excuse me, po. Naaalala?" Daniel joined the conversation.
"Karla, di mo pa ba nasasabi?" Kath's mom asked Daniel's.
Daniel's mom shook her head. "Ang ano, ma?" Daniel asked.
"S-si Kath...naaksidente nung nasa Amerika sila."
"Ha?! Ma, kelan mo lang nalamant 'to?!" Daniel got angrier.
His mom looked down. "Two months ago..."
Daniel clenched his fists. "Tapos nagka-amnesia si Kath. Selective amnesia..." His mom kept on talking.
"Thankful nga ang family ni Kath na di sila nakalimutan. Pero, nak, may problema."
"Ano yun, ma?" Daniel's voice got a lot calmer.
"Tayo, di na tayo maalala ni Kath."
