Falling Slowly

Bufan - Birthday

Ever since you could remember, rain had always blessed you during your birthday.

When you were younger, you hated it because then no one would come to your birthday party but as you grew older you have become quite attached to the idea of rain during your birthday. You look forward to it now, as if it was a sign that you are being blessed on the day of your birth.

Today, you woke up to the glare of the sun on your face.

"It's my birthday!" You thought. You stretched and reached for your phone. You smiled when you saw that Bufan, your sweet, sweet boyfriend, had been calling and messaging you. You read his messages and immediately got up when you got to the last one.

You ran to your door and opened it. There he was sitting alone in the corridor holding up a gift bag, a bear, some pink balloons and cake. He smiled at you when he saw you, "Hey baby! Happy birthday!!!" He stood up and you hugged him.

"Waaaah, you didn't have to come here this early! I thought we were going to have lunch with the others today," you said.

"Yeah, well, I just wanted to be the one who you see first today, and I wanted to be the one to greet you first. Here," he said handing you his gifts.

"Wowww, thank you so much! This is all too much," you said looking into the gift bag, he got you some perfume, cosmetics and other girly stuff.

"No, it's not," he said hugging you from behind as you checked all the gifts he bought you. "Come on, take a bath now, while I make breakfast."

"Okay, thank you," you said and then kissed him on his chin (because he's tall you can't reach).

After taking a bath, you found that he had set up the table and had finished preparing breakfast. You both sat and ate your meal. Then you turned and looked out the window, it was bright and sunny and your heart broke a little.

Bufan noticed your pout, "What's wrong?"

"it's too sunny," you said. Then you looked at him, "remember when I told you that I look forward to rain during my birthday? I think it's not gonna happen this year."

"Well, it's too early to say. Don't worry, it will rain."

After breakfast he helped you tidy up your apartment a bit and then you spent the remaining hours before lunch watching tv shows together. When he received a text message from Yueyue, you both prepared to leave your house. You walked towards their dorm, the aunties there cooked a special lunch you can share with the boys for your birthday. As you and Bufan were walking, you kept looking up the sky, still too sunny.

"Hey, don't think about it too much," Bufan told you. You nodded at him.

You got to the door and you were surprised by the boys with more balloons and poppers and gifts. You all had your lunch together. After that you played some games with them. They also noticed that you kept looking out the window and glancing up to the sky.

"Fanzi, is she waiting for something?" Yueyue asked Bufan as they both saw you standing by the window.

"It always rains on her birthday, she feels sad because it's too sunny. I feel like she's not happy today, and she has to be happy, it's her birthday. What can I do?" Bufan whispered to his brother.

"Well, all we can do is wait, unless you can it make rain," Yueyue said then he looked at Bufan. Both of their eyes widened as if they had thought of the same thing. Yueyue pulled his phone out and started texting Ziyang and Didi.

Bufan went to you. "Baby, Yueyue-ge and I are going out to get ice cream, stay here," he told you.

"Let me come with you," you said.

"Aiya! Jiejie! Stay here with us, let's watch a movie," Didi said, pulling you over to the couch. Ziyang had already turned on the tv and is browsing for a movie to watch.

"O-okay," you said letting Didi guide you towards the couch.

After a while, you suddenly heard something crash from upstairs.

'What's that?" you asked the two boys. Didi just shrugged his shoulder and pulled out his phone.

'That's nothing, probably just a husky." Ziyang said smiling at you.

"Huh?"you answered but the two were already looking away.

After a few more minutes, Didi got up, "Jiejie, can you come with me for a while?"

"Where?"

"Just follow me." He led you outside to a small garden on the side of their dorm, "Come," Didi said.

The moment you stepped on the grass you felt small drops of water fall on your shoulders. You smiled and held your hand out. You looked up and then suddenly it was raining.

"It's raining! Didi it's raining!" you said, you and Didi were both jumping. Ziyang watched the two of you by the door, smiling.

You then got a better view of the sky, it was still a little bright, then you saw Yueyue and Bufan smiling at you from the balcony upstairs holding up several hoses in their hands with sprinklers attached on them. It was them who was making it "rain."

"Happy birthday, baby!!"Bufan shouted, smiling at you.

You waved at him and blew him a kiss but then Yueyue jokingly caught them before Bufan did, Bufan glared at him and let go of the hoses he was holding leaving the older brother to manage all of them by himself.

Bufan went outside, you ran to him and he carried you and spun you around.

When he put you down, he asked, "happy?"

"Yes, very. I can't believe you made it rain for me," you said.

"I'll do anything to see you smile," he said.

Then suddenly you heard thunder and some big drops of water fell from the sky.

It was now really, literally, raining. Yueyue turned off the hoses and went down to join all of you in the garden. He and Didi pulled Ziyang with them who reluctantly agreed to get wet.

You and Bufan were still in each others arms when Ziyang hosed the both you, "that's enough!! i'm out and i'm wet, come play with us!" he said.

You smiled at Bufan and the both you ran around with the others boys, playing like kids under the rain.

It was your best birthday yet.
