Dear Grandpa

By: IcyRain210

I wish I could've been there

Standing by your side

But instead I had to stay here

All I could do was cry

I had left Ohio

And now you were leaving me

Oh Jesus, Lord please tell me

Why did this have to be

I'll never forget what grandma said

That Hannah climbed up in your bed

On that night

To say goodbye

Just one last time

So you could fly

Into the light

And meet Jesus on the other side

And on your deathbed

You asked for me

But I was not there

I could not be

It tore at me

For you see

I was thousands of miles

Across the sea

We were so close

Heart and soul

I was young

And you were old

You took us to the playground

Where we would laugh and play

And after a long while

Finally you would say

"Let's go get ice cream!"

Then we'd end the day

With you telling stories

To Hannah and to me

Looking back on all the times

That we would laugh

The sun would shine

I took it all for granted

From the stories that you told

To the flowers that you planted

So now I'm writing this to you

Hoping this will reach you soon

My words may fly over the moon

And meet you in your living room

I miss you Grandpa

Night and day

I miss the words

That you would say

I miss the good times

And the bad

I miss the happy

And the sad

But looking back

I am so glad

That I had you

And you I had

You've reached the end of published parts.
