Japan, Hashima Island; December 1973, 10.27 a.m.

It wasn’t the first time that a patient threatened  me, I was quite used to it.

His words didn’t bother me at all, but I decided to play his  game.

“Really?” I asked “What are you talking about?” I said with an innocent voice.

“This place is going to burn down” he told me with a straight face.

This wasn’t what I expected. At all. What a surprise. Isn’t it lovely how he told me that he wasn’t crazy?

“Is that a joke? Because it’s not funny.”

“It isn’t, I’m sure about it. And, to be honest, do I look like someone who likes joking?”

“Why are you so sure?” I asked standing up and walking towards him. I was quite upset. How could he be  so confident about what he was saying?

“I’m sure because I saw it with my own eyes”

I was almost angry with this boy and his pride.

“Kid, you know that I could just prescribe to you some antidepressants and leave you, right”

“No you cannot. You are here just because it’s your job”

For a second I stopped breathing and my face became completely red.I tried to calm down, I was a psychologist, I couldn’t lose my patience with a brat like that.

I took a deep breath and I calmed myself down.

“You know what? I’m here to do my job just because you are here in  a place for crazy people like you” I said this and then I went out, slamming the door behind my back.

I immediately regretted what I did. Was he going to cry, shout or do something weird?

A strong  sensibility is typical of people affected by Asperger's Syndrome. And I was quite sure that this was Haise’s disease.

Since the Asperger Syndrome is a branch of autism, I had to behave more carefully.
