DAUGHTER IN LAW (chapter 7)

[ADITI]
I wake up in the morning. I get ready and I go downstairs leaving Veer sleeping on the couch.
I walk down the stairs and Veer's grandma sees me.
"Aditi. Thank God you woke up. Come fast. Your mother needs you in the kitchen." She says holding me.
I look at her while she takes me to the kitchen. Before entering the kitchen I push her hand and she looks at me shocked.
"Do you think I came here to be your slave?" I ask
She looks at me in anger and says "How dare you to talk to me like this? I will teach you a lesson" she's about to slap me but Veer's mom stops her. Grandma and I look at her.
"Let her. She needs time" she says
"Time? She came in this house as our daughter in law. She has to take her responsibilities in this house" grandma says
Veer walks down the stairs and says "Why are you shouting?"
Grandma goes to him and says "Look Veer...your wife doesn't want to do anything in this house. She thinks she has come here to enjoy and to be served"
Veer looks at me.
"Tell her what she has to do. Teach her a lesson" she says to Veer.
I look at her shocked.
"No one can tell me what to do. Especially your grandson." I say

Veer looks at me.
"How can you be so shameless? He's your husband" she says
"So What? A husband can rule his wife but she can't say anything?" I say

"Aditi please stop" Veer's mom says trying to help me because grandma is getting annoyed.
"You have to take your responsibilities! That's my last decision!" Grandma says
I am about to go upstairs but Veer stops me grabbing my wrist.
I look at him shocked.
"I haven't said my last decision Aditi" he says
He turns to me and says "You will do everything they tell you to do. Did you get it? If you have to cook then you will cook. If you have to do the washing up then you will do it. As grandma said you didn't come here on holiday"
I go upstairs without saying anything.
I close the door of the room and I start crying.
Mom comes in and sits next to me.
I try to hide my tears and I get up saying "I will come to the kitchen and help you"
I am about to go but she stops me and says "I don't want you to help me." I look at her.
She pampers me and kisses on my forehead.
"Why are you so good to me?" I ask
"Why shouldn't I?" She asks
"You're Veer's mom. You should be by his side not mine" I say
"He's stubborn. He's doing this because you made him angry. You will see he will realize his mistake." She says
I look at the ground without saying anything.
"Do you two want to divorce? Did you two talk about this?" She asks
"I didn't. But it's not his decision. It's mine" I say
"Talk to him first. Then you will take a decision" she says and leaves.

In the night I enter the room and I see Veer laying on the bed.
"Can you get up? I want to sleep" I say annoyed
He looks at me in anger and says "I will sleep on my bed. Did you get it? If you want to sleep then go and sleep on the couch"
I look at him then I say "Fine. I will sleep on the couch" He looks at me surprised.
I go and take the blanket from the closet and I go and lay on the couch.
He keeps looking at me in anger then he gets up and takes my pillow and blanket and throws them on the bed. I look at him shocked.
"Why are you so calm? Aaah? Why are you doing what I told you to do without protesting?" He asks
"I don't want to argue with you. I'm just tired" I say
"But I want to argue with you" he says
I look at him and I say "What do you want now? Why don't you leave me in peace?"
"You argued with my grandma. You did a big mistake by doing this. Now your life will be like hell" He says
"I'm not afraid of you and your grandma. My life became a hell When I entered this house as daughter in law" I say
