Doubt

I sighed as I opened my phone, another text from Melissa trying to get me to go to that stupid back to school party:
Melissa: Come to the party! It'll be fun!
Me: Nah thanks I have homework.
Melissa: You are so lame how do you even have friends?
I bit my lip staring at the text. What hurt the most was that it was true, I was lame, but maybe, just maybe everything could change if I went to the party. It's not like I wasn't a model student already and I supposed one party wouldn't hurt. I felt the peer pressure build and build as I stared at the text, the word "lame" may have meant nothing to her, but to me it was like a million knives stabbing me all over. Eventually I gave in,
Me: Ok I'll go
Melissa: I knew you would! You're the best!!
I tried to justify what I had just agreed to do, but the bitter truth was that I'd given in to the peer pressure.

The next morning I woke up and for a moment I was happy, then thoughts of agreeing to the party rushed round me as pure dread. I knew I was being silly and that I was going to be fine, but a small voice in the back of my head was repeatedly telling me not to go. Unusually, I ignored it. I jumped as my phone went off with a ding, it was Melissa, of course
Melissa: Meet me at my house around 8ish to start getting ready.
Me: Ok, I thought the party started at 8 though?
Melissa: Oh you idiot, no one goes to a party on time, I've got to go now, see you.

All through the day I tried to convince myself the party would be fine, but that small voice inside my head fuelled the dread. I knocked on Melissa's door around 8pm and truthfully that's the last I can clearly remember. It was all such a blur. I can remember Melissa offering me vodka for before the party.
"No... I really don't think I should" I muttered while staring at the bottle in her hand. "Don't be ridiculous!" She snapped, "if you don't go to a party tipsy it's like you're not there!" Her sharp tone took over my body and before I knew it I was downing the rest of the bottle. I felt tingley, the strength of the vodka pierced my throat making my eyes water. I stumbled to Melissa's car and then we where off the the party.
