Chapter 1-
At the age of 6 not long after my fathers disappearance, Mum moved us far away to a tiny town in the middle of no where. Mum said she wanted to "start over," but I always knew, deep down that she was running from something. It would be another 10 years before I discovered that.
My name is Mary Jane.
In less than 24 hours I will be sixteen years old. Sweet sixteen it has a magical ring to it. Sixteen is supposed to be a age when girls become princesses and fall in love and go to dances and proms and such. Countless stories, songs and poems have been written about this wonderful age, when a girl finds true love and the stars shine for her and the handsome prince carries her off into the sunset.
I don't think it would be that way for me.
My school Enchantment Heights High School, yes the name it self sounds suspicious. It is situated in the middle of Oakwood Brooke (the town) and it looks like a normal school made of stone, but everyone who goes there is strange.
Well you have your social groups, the nerds who I think are wizards, the jocks who remind me of ogres since they smell and they are really big, the rebels are dwarfs because they are mischievous and get a way with anything, the fairies pretty much beauty queens, see a bug they drop dead, and the Trix they are the witches, Trish, Italia and Xena best tip stay away. And me, I am alone but I like it that way I guess.
I pretty much know everyone in the town since nobody really leaves or comes to live here, that's why I am referred as the 'The Stranger', the first one they have had in a long time. Anyway I know today will be different cause I got this feeling that something good will happen.
I got up out of bed and opened my walldrobe to try and look for something to wear, I ended picking some tight denim cuffed jeans that reached above my ankle, a white navy blue striped top with a black cardigan and a red scarf (we don't have a uniform for school). It was quite cold as it is winter right now. I ended up braiding my boring, blonde hair, Mum likes my hair though she thinks it sparkles in the sun but I highly doubt it.
I walked downstairs and said "Good morning Mum!" As I entered the kitchen. Opening the cabinet doors I scoured the boxes of cereal for the one I liked, wondering if mum remembered to pick it up. Of course she hadn't. Nothing but fibre squares and disgusting marshmallow cereals for when my cousins stay over. Was it so hard to remember Cheerios?
Mum sat at the table drinking coffee and leafing through the town's tiny newspaper, which reads more like our high school gossip column than a real news source. I slammed the cabinet doors with a satisfying bang.
"Good morning." I said a bit louder this time. Mum jerked her head up and finally looked at me. Her bright, blue eyes, that I was lucky enough to inherit from her, registered a mild surprise.
"Oh, hi sweetie." She said calmly. "I didn't hear you come in. What did you say?"
I sighed and repeated myself for the third time.
"Ahh.. Good morning did you sleep well?" Mum asked turning back to her paper. " I have to work late today, so you will have the house to yourself for a few hours."
I grabbed a bagel from the top of the fridge and joined Mum at the table. "Does that mean I have to catch the bus."
"Yes, sorry dal." I always took the bus. I just wanted to remind Mum that she was supposed to take me to get a learners permit this weekend.
I ate in silence for the next few minutes and got up and lobbed the bagel in the trash can. It hit the wall with a thump and dropped inside, leaving a greasy smear on the paint. I smirked and decided to leave it.
