juliette's pov

"rise and shine, sis! today's the day!" jeff's cheerful tone wakes me up from my slumber and i groan in annoyance. monday morning, the dreaded first day back to school.

"how can you be so excited for school?" i groggily ask my beaming twin brother as he hops over to me and drags my arms in an attempt to have me sit up. he succeeds in doing so and plops down right beside me.

"every day is a gift, jules." he smiles at me and i shake my head but smile back. i've always adored yet somewhat envied his constant positive attitude. the world could come crashing down by the second but you would still find jeff atkins smiling and radiating beams of positivity. "now get out of bed and put a comb through that bird nest you got up there." he points up to my hair and i roll my eyes before lazily standing from my bed.

i turn to face the mirror on top of my dresser and do a double take once i take in my appearance. damn i look like death.

"exactly." jeff simply says as if reading my thoughts. he gives me a quick kiss on the head before heading out of my room.

the last weekend of summer truly went by in a blur after friday night's hangout. aside from going out to buy the last school supplies we needed, jeff and i spent all of our time here at home getting everything ready and just chilling around watching netflix. our parents were supposed to be here by today to spend the last day of summer with us, but as always, their flight got 'cancelled' so they had to stay in santa monica for their said 'work trip'. at this point, jeff and i have gotten used to not having them around at all so it didn't really bug us that much to not have them here today. at least they still pay the house bills.

i make my way to the bathroom and complete my basic morning routine before applying some basic light makeup, focusing mostly on some simple mascara and lip gloss. i leave my hair down with only some loose curls and retrieve the outfit i had left out last night to wear today. ain't nobody got time to pick out the outfit the same morning. i slip on a cute yet casual blue top with a pair of light blue skinny jeans. i then put on my not so high white heels since i need some way to heighten my stature considering i'm not the tallest girl around.

"hurry up, sis!" jeff calls out from downstairs and i quickly grab my backpack from my chair and hurry down the stairs.

"i'm coming, i'm coming, i'm here!" i exclaim as i grab the two halves of the bagel sticking out of the toaster.

"you're gonna have to take that to-go," jeff utters as he shoves the last bits of his bagel into his mouth and then snatches mine, speedily smearing cream cheese all over the two halves. i stifle a laugh at the sight and grab a napkin from inside one of the drawers. he's such a mom. he hands me the messy bagel and wipes his hands on one of the rags next to the sink before hurrying towards the door, gesturing for me to follow him.

"gosh, chill." i mutter as i wrap my bagel in the napkin, licking off the cream cheese that rubbed off on my fingers. i follow my brother  out the door and into his car. he'd be my ride to and from the school today since i had stupidly forgotten to fill my car up with gas yesterday.
