It had been 7 weeks since school had started, by now Michelle was somewhat comfortable with her surroundings. She more or less knew her way around the school, and finally managed to open her locker on multiple occasions. She also got used to waking up early in the morning, but kept her alarm on just in case. Alex and Diane had become good friends of hers, and the trio hung out every day at school and when they could after school. It was nice to have friends again, after having been dumped by her other friends for whatever reason.
Today Michelle had woken up before her alarm and turned it off. She had mentioned it once or twice, but she doubted that her new friends would remember that today was her birthday. She had picked out a dress to wear for the day, and had braided her long, dark brown hair the night before. She changed out of her pajamas and slipped into the dress. It was a black spaghetti strap dress, there was a bright red floral pattern along the front and back of it. She had found it at one of the local fairs held in downtown, and instantly fell in love with it. She paired it with a thin, grey cardigan and brown gladiator flats.
Her mother had made her a purple flower pin, since purple was her favorite color, and after Michelle undid her braid she pulled some of her hair back and placed the pin on the right side of her head. Looking at her phone, she saw that it was already 6:55, slung her backpack over her shoulder and made her way downstairs. Her mother smiled up at her as she came down.
"Look at my baby, all grown up and looking pretty today. Happy Birthday Michelle! Aww you're wearing the flower I made you. Come on let's hurry up and get you out of here." Her mother ushered her out of the door as she clicked the unlock button on the car keys.
As she opened the passenger door, Michelle looked over at her mom and smiled back, "Of course I'm wearing the flower you made me, it's beautiful mama and thank you."
"It's just as beautiful as the young lady wearing it. We're going out to eat tonight, so pick a place alright?" The car roared to life, and they pulled out of the driveway to head towards the school.
When they arrived, Michelle smiled and gave her mother a quick hug before getting out of the car. It was 7:04 now, and she was definitely sure there was enough time to stop at her locker. She was in for an utter surprise, because as she turned into the hallway towards her locker, Alex and Diane were standing there. They both had a present in hand and had decorated her locker with purple wrapping paper and a big red bow.
"Happy Birthday!!!" They shouted, big grins on their faces as the both leaned forward to hug Michelle.
A shocked look on her face, she hugged them back, "Awwwww you guys! You didn't have to get me anything, honestly just remembering and decorating my locker is more than enough."
"Of course we remembered, and regardless what you say we got you presents anyways." They rolled their eyes, handing their presents to her.
Alex coughed, shyly looking away, "My gift is something my grandmother gave to me, she told me to give it to someone special when I was ready to."
"Aw isn't someone just a big sweetheart over here, you make my gift look like it was nothing." Diane shook her head, playfully smacking Alex on the back.
Opening the one from Alex first, it was a box that held a bracelet on the inside, it was a Tiffany & Co. bracelet. Opening Diane's, it was a pack of purple inked pens. Michelle had mentioned that when she writes stories, songs or poems she likes to write in purple ink since it's her favorite color. Once more, Michelle hugged both of her friends, a smile on her face. She never expected such thoughtful gifts.
"Thank you guys so much, these mean a lot to me. Let me get my English book really quick so we aren't late to class." Michelle expressed, looking at the time once more to see that it was already 7:19.
