The sun shone brightly down on the sleeping earth, causing all living creature to awaken. Birds chirped their morning song, rabbits emerged from their burrows, flowers bloomed, bees buzzed from flower to flower, butterflies broke free from their chrysalis, and a young girl stirred on the forest floor frightening a few animals.
Curious about the young human girl, the animals quietly surrounded her. An overly curious bunny got enough courage to go up to the young girl and nudge her with its nose. The girl feeling the soft fur tickle her nerves stirred and opened her eyes groggily.
The first thing she saw was the small bunny looking back at her. She smiled at the white bunny and sat up slowly, afraid of scaring it away. Instead of being afraid, and sensing no danger, the bunny hopped closer to the girl wrinkling its pink nose.
"Why hello there little bunny," the little girl's voice rang out through the forest.
"Hello human child," a soft fuzzy voice sang in her head.
Astonished the young girl called out, "Who's there?"
"I the little bunny," it replied. Amazed she bent down closer to the animal.
"I can hear you in my mind."
"I'm not surprised. You wield the power of the goddesses around your neck."
She glanced down and saw that her necklace was glowing a soft blue and pulsing against her chest. "Power? Like witches and warlocks?" She recalled from her bedtime stories her mother and father would tell her. "Is it cursed?"
"Oh dear me no. It's a blessing. You are the foretold child," it softly whispered to her. The bunny hopped away quickly into the bushes to tell the other animals that she wasn't a danger to them.
"Wait, don't leave me!" She yelled after the bunny.
"I'll be right back. Don't move from here," it told her before it completely disappeared from her view.
Truth radiated from the small animal and soothed the girl's worries. Slowly she glanced around her to take in her surroundings. She sat crossed legged in the middle of a small clearing. Flowers were in full bloom all around her. A myriad of different colored fauna lay like a blanket on the forest floor. She looked up into the sky and saw geese flying south for the winter in their "V" formation. Bees buzzed from flower to flower pollinating the winter blooms. She could hear the humming from the nearby humming birds' wings and their small chirping noises they made as they flew around fighting each other for a Turks Cap's nectar.
Intrigued by her new found ability, she tried harder to hear out farther into the forest. She found that not only had her hearing ability become potent, but her all her senses had heightened. She could not only hear the animals moving yards away, but as well as she could hear them she could feel their every movements. The soft foot falls of every living creature moving, shook the ground underneath her in the slightest way.
The pendant around her neck grew warmer and warmer against her chest, yet it did not become unbearable for her to wear. She heard rustling in the bushes and glanced around searching for the source. Within seconds she was completely surrounded by all the animals that lived within the forest. She stared wide eyed as her new little friend appeared at her side and spoke, "I would like you all to meet the child who was prophesied to save the world or damn it."
Finding her voice she asked, "Prophesied? What prophecy."
"Human child," a white tailed dear with a rack on his head almost three feet high addressed her, "what is the date of your birth?"
"December 21," she replied meekly meeting the great beast's eyes.
"The day of your birth a magical thing happen that has not occurred in over a millennium. A star appeared in the night sky, one that was never seen nor charted at the exact moment you were born. The star became brighter and brighter as it approached ever closer to this earth. Many were afraid and hid, we as animals sensed a great power coming and awakening. One older than this earth itself. When at last it broke through to the earth, two ancient goddesses appeared and together bonded their great power into a stone. Not just any stone, but it is the exact stone that lies on your breast bone now. It contains power like no human has ever controlled. The only one ever foretold that can wield as much power is you. You are foretold to be the chosen to either condemn this planet to oblivion or reign over it and protect it." All the animals remained silent as he concluded his recalling of the memory.
She had no idea how to absorb all this news. Fear clutched at the young girl's heart. She had a big role to play at such a young age, but she did not know what to do with the knowledge she had just gained. Would she choose darkness over light? Her knowledge on darkness was limited, and she knew that now there was no one to protect her nor teach her what she must know before she chose a side.
At that moment longing filled the young girl. Longing to go home, to see her parents alive and well, her siblings as well. If her mother and father were still alive they would have told her and helped her find her way as always. She missed them dearly. It felt like the whole world depended on her, and she was going to let them down. She was angry. Angry at the darkness that took her beloved family from her.
"How will I know what to do? My family was murdered before my eyes last night! What am I to do? I have no one left to guide me. Please, tell me what I must do. I want my parents back. They would know what to do." She cried out begging the animals to answer her. Sadly they had no response to give. They all shook their heads and turned away. There was nothing more they could do for the girl.
