HELLO EVERYBODY AS YOU CAN SEE I AM NOT DEAD. THIS CHAPTER JUST TOOK ALMOST FOUR FRICKAN MONTHS TO WRITE. AND THERE PROBABLY WON'T BE ANOTHER CHAPTER IN THE NEXT COUPLE MONTHS SO I'M SORRY. I'M DOING THE BEST THAT I CAN.
I woke up suddenly with a tune in my head and lyrics on my tongue. I absolutely had to write this down before coffee inevitably chased it out for 6 weeks. I reached out to grab my bedside notebook. I couldn't find it. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes to look for it, but I realized that I wasn't at home at all.
I groaned and sunk back into the bed, pulling the covers over my head. I desperately wished that I was dreaming, but the furry appendage that tickled my legs and the things on top of my head that caught every muffled whisper begged to differ.
"Melody?" I heard Moon call, "I don't know if you're up yet, but I made breakfast for you and Delen. I need to go to work, but I'll be back by lunch. Don't get into any trouble, okay?"
Food? There was food? And who was Delen? Curiosity aroused, as well as my hunger, I ventured forth into the unknown.
My room had been closed off with a heavy brocade curtain, and there was another curtain to my right. In front of me, I heard dishes clanking and gentle humming. Of course, I was going to follow the humming.
And because I could smell food, but that's beside the point.
Peeking my head around the corner, I found the source of humming. She was taller than me (not that that was hard to do), and her tail was gently waving in time to her song. Her short-ish dirty blond hair barely hid a long scar that wrapped around her neck. Her ears were constantly twitching, never focusing on the same sound for too long. I was fascinated by their movements. Who knew that the things on top of my head moved so much. Suddenly, she froze. "Please step out of the shadows and stop making me jumpy," she hissed. I sheepishly came near.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you," I rubbed the back of my head and felt my face go into tomato zone.
"No, no. It's not your fault, kitten. Moonchance told me about you, so you couldn't possibly have known," she sighed, and turned to face me. Her face was regal, but almost a broken regal, like I was staring into the face of a queen who had lost everything but stayed strong regardless. The scar I had glimpsed on the back of her neck circled around and slipped beneath her golden shirt. Her hazel eyes seemed shattered, a broken window to the soul.
"Still, I should have just come out instead of ghosting," I nervously laughed. On the one hand, I wanted to give her a hug, but at the same time, she looked as though the smallest touch would break her. She gently placed her hand on my shoulder.
"No, really, it's okay," she tried to smile at me, but it was a ghost of a smile. "I should introduce myself," she said gently, "I'm Delen."
"I'm Melody," I said shyly. Suddenly, a loud slam startled both of us.
"Del, sweetie, d'ya mind if I hide out here for a while? The guys are going crazy, and I need some space," a voice asked as its owner sauntered into the kitchen. My mouth dropped, and I hurried to close it before she noticed.
To say she was gorgeous was like saying that Texans were overdramatic. Fiery red hair in perfect curls, flawless porcelain skin, and baby blue eyes combined with a black beanie on her head, a black crop top, jean shorts, and a red flannel tied around her waist. She caught me staring at her and winked at me.
It seemed my face was going to go into tomato zone yet again.
"Hey, sweetie, haven't seen you around here before. Name's Olivia. What's yours?" she cooed at me. Forget tomato zone, my face was the shade of a red-hot chili pepper.
