'come.'

'mother and father always told me to stay away from you.'

'just one step, sumati- just one step.'

the little girl looked back, her parents' backs facing her.

'sumati, take one step.'

the girl turned to face the ocean, the clear blue water swaying back and forth. she tilted her head, taking a step forward.

the cool water tickled her feet, she letting out a giggle.

'another, sumati.'

she stepped forward, the water now at her knees.

'see, sumati?'

'you tickle.' the little girl giggled.

'i am your friend, sumati- don't be afraid. never be afraid.'

'SUMATI!'

the water around her swayed, splashing her as she was suddenly engulfed into her father's arms.

'What are you doing in the water?' the blue-eyed man asked, reminding sumati of her new friend.

'making a friend.' she replied.
