Nalia has always been privileged but she is surprisingly unspoilt and selfless. She uses her families’ wealth for good, making the world a better place. She is a genuinely happy person and her life is good. Her family is loving and supportive-although not perfect, of course, no family is.
While away, one day, a deadly weapon is set off which kills off innumerable amounts of people all over the world. Nalia survives, but she returns to an eerily silent town. It was one of the worst affected towns. Everyone she loved is gone. All she has left from her family, her home life, is her grandmother’s precious white shawl.
Yet somehow, she manages not to give up all hope for the future, in a world of desolation. In a world that seems to be against her though, and where she has so little to give, how can she help? Especially since there seems to be far more wrong now than right. Is there even any point? Nalia isn't a born survivor, or at least she doesn't think so. She isn't strong or brave or amazingly smart. How can she help others when she can barely help herself?
She can choose to cry and slowly but surely die, like so many others. Or she can choose to shine, brightly in the speedily darkening world.
