I tapped my fingers on the dash board as my mother drove my little brother and I to an amusement park. I started to hum before my mom yelled at a driver in front of us. I rolled my eyes thinking it was nothing. It usually is. I continued my tapping as my mother let out a blood curdling scream of fear. My head shot up and I unhooked my seat belt jumping into the back seat and covering my little brother, Jason. The car in front of us crashed into our vehicle as I covered my brother to make sure he was safe. I shouted out in pain as I was thrown into Jason's door. The door flew open and I scrambled out as fast as I could. After I was out I cut my brother out of his seat and got him out as well.
"Jay?" I whispered and he looked at me with a small smile.
"Nia..." he whispered before saying, "Where's mommy?"
I stared at him and stood up, laying him on the ground. I walked over to my mom's door and my eyes widened. My mother was dead. And I could have been too. I let out a shaky sigh and went back to Jason, pulling out my phone an calling 911. They arrived shortly after I called.
"Miss, how old are you?" one paramedic asked. I replied quietly saying I was 10. He nodded. "If you stayed where you were you'd all be dead. How did your brother even survive?"
"Nia guarded me!" My little brother shouted proudly. The man nodded. I sighed and grabbed my brother's hand. He pulled us into an ambulance and took us away.
My little brother hummed quietly as the doctors checked us out and had social workers come out to get us. I sighed as we climbed into the car.
"For a while you will both be living in a foster home. If in 4 years you two aren't adopted you will be sent to a boarding school. In America." We nodded as we were taken to the home.
