I stood, shocked, in the doorway. My crush was sitting right in front of me and I was going to eat dinner with him. Mr. Orman sat at the end of the table. Mrs. Orman sat to his right and Dexter to his left. Mrs. Orman was next to Nico's seat, so he sat down next to her after releasing Olly. I slowly made my way over to where I sat, staring at my hands after I plopped into my chair. Denise sat next to Nico and Ashton, Nico's dad, sat at the other end of the table. Something was holding my tongue, so I couldn't make awkward conversation with Dexter. All speech was distorted to my ears until I felt something tap my arm.

"You alright, Hayden?" Dexter asked with his smooth voice.

I fought against the lock on my voice, "Uh, yeah. Thanks for asking."

Dexter nods and take the plate of food that was handed to him. I smile to myself and took the next plate from Denise. I picked up my fork and ate slowly, treasuring this moment. My mind began to day dream. In the dream, Dexter pushed out his chair and grabbed my arm, pulling me into the living room. He smashed his lips into mine before asking where my room is. Dexter lifted me up in his strong arms then kicked open my door, kissing me again. Denise's voice interrupted before anything can go further. I silently cursed at myself.

"Oh, Hayden, you're looking a little red. Why don't you go to your room?"

I slowly nodded, looking away from Dexter as I stood up. I rushed to my room, closed the door, then screamed into my pillow. I threw the pillow and flopped onto my bed. Why did my imagination have to excite me so? God, it's like I was a teenage girl from a romance movie. Ew. No one wants to be like that. I took a few minutes to "calm myself down" then head back downstairs.

"Feeling better?" Ashton asked me as I walked into the room.

"Uh, yeah, thank you for asking."

"Of course, you're like a second son to me."

I looked away, flustered by that comment. I made my way back to my seat and sat back down, relaxing into my chair. My food was still on the table, so I started eating it, not minding it being cold, and listened to conversations of the others. Nico was going on about this person named Idris in his science class. They seemed cool from what I heard.

"We should have Idris join us for lunch," I told Nico.

"I think they'd enjoy that."

"So, boys, how was your first day of senior year?" Mr. Orman asked.

"It was great, but long," Nico responded smoothly.

"Same," I replied.

After some more small talk, Dexter, Nico, and I were sent to the basement. Since there were only two bean bag chairs, I shared with Dexter as he watched Nico and I play Street Fighter. After a few rounds, Nico passed the controller to Dexter, so he could do some writing for his class.

Dexter leaned his elbows onto his thighs, getting really into the game.

"I have to say, you're really good at Street Fighter, but not as good as me," he laughed.

I rolled my eyes, "Then why are you losing?"

"Letting you win."

"Awww, thanks but you don't have to go easy on me."

"Really?"

"Really."

He then promptly kicked my ass.

After a few battles Mrs. Orman yelled downstairs for Dexter. He placed the controller onto the console before turning to me.

"It was great to hang out with you again, Hayden. See you at school!"

Dexter ran up the stairs, leaving me a blushing mess. I turned off the PS4 then ran up the stairs to the living room, backpack slung over my left shoulder.

"Bye Denise! Bye Ashton!" I yelled before leaving.

I walked down the sidewalk, pulling my hoodie over my head so then I'm not recognized. My home was a couple blocks away, so it was a quick jaunt. I unlocked and pushed open the door to hear the TV playing the same bullshit sprouting news channel that my parents always watched. Silently, I walked up the stairs to my room. I flung my bag onto my desk chair, then I flopped onto my bed. It was cold, since I hadn't been there for a few days.

Staring at the alarm clock on my nightstand. It was eight o'clock and I was already so tired. Slowly, I closed my eyes and I fell asleep. I didn't notice that my mother checked on me while I was slowly falling asleep.
