Chapter 1: The Phone Call
I pulled the sleeves of his overly large sweater down my arms, wrapping up my hands. It smelled like him, felt like him, and reminded me too much of him.
“He’ll come visit, Chelsea. I know he will.” I smiled weakly at my best friend. At least she was trying.
“I don’t want him to visit Stace, I want him to stay.” I said looking down into my lap.
“I know…” The two of us sat on my bed crossed legged and were looking through old photos. I knew Niall had a new life filled with new people, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want him back. Sure we texted every once in a while, but they weren’t the same sweet and flirty texts they used to be. We were once one of those couples that started out as best friends and slowly fell in love. Jeez, that sounded corny. But it was true.
My cell phone rang beside me. My mother, being the cheap person she is, decided to leave out caller ID one my plan. I answered it as I always do with a simple, “Hello?”
“Is this Chelsea Hinz?” A male voice sounded on the other end. He sounded quite worried.
“That would be me.” I looked at Stacey, confused.
“You’re friends with Niall Horan, correct?” Okay, this guy was really creepy.
“Okay, listen bud: I don’t know who you are or what you want, but how are you getting this information?!”
“I’M LOUIS TOMLINSON AND NIALL’S BEEN IN A CAR ACCIDENT!” Oh. I didn’t reply. I don’t even know if I was breathing.
“N-N-Niall? I-Is he ok-okay?” I spluttered. Tears were forming in my eyes and threatening to spill over. Stacey immediately started to panic and ask me questions. I shushed her.
“His parents and his brother are in the Bahamas right now. They’re trying to get the next flight here. The doctors won’t tell us anything or let us in to see him because we’re not related. We were trying to think of people we could contact. We thought of you.” I started to protest, telling him that I’m not family either. “We know, we know. But they’ll talk to you if you pretend to be his girlfriend.” Louis paused, waiting for my answer. Pretend to be Niall’s girlfriend? That could end badly. But the guys needed me. I would do it for them. And Niall.
“Sure.”
“Oh thank god. We’ve already booked you a flight. It leaves in a half hour.” He went on to tell me the flight information. I wrote it down quickly. “Please hurry.” It sounded like Louis was crying too. My heart ached for him. We hung up and I ran to my closet, grabbing my backpack and shoving some clothes, my wallet, and my passport in it.
“Chelsea! What is going on?!”
“It’s Niall. He got into an accident. I need to go.” She nodded. Without saying another word, she grabbed her keys and turned to me.
“The airport?” I nodded and we got into her car. I loved how she knew that I was in no shape to drive myself. I was so glad I had Stacey.
The drive was silent but fast. When we stopped, I hugged her tightly and told her I would text her when I landed and when I found something out.
I made it on my flight just in time. I flopped down into my seat, and quickly pulled out my phone and plugged in my headphones. I needed something to distract me. I hoped I would fall asleep so I wouldn’t have an anxiety attack. With me and my luck, I didn’t get any. I was constantly checking my phone for the time. Louis said the flight from Mullingar to London was around an hour. I wish it was two seconds. Sure Niall and I slowly drifted apart but that didn’t mean he wasn’t special to me. He was my first love, first kiss, first eating contest, and he bought me my first Justin Bieber CD. I would do anything for this boy. Anything.
