CHAPTAH TWO
We took our seats, Niall's hands full of food. He balanced two hot dogs, French fries, a pop, one burger, three packs of candy and two slices of pizza. He laid his food out precariously across his lap, having trouble deciding what to eat. We were just at a high school ball game together, like we did every Saturday.
"Aren't you already fat enough?" He gave me a wicked grin then ate a hot dog in almost two solid bites. I just laughed and munched on some fries and Skittles. The game was doing well. Thankfully our team was winning by a fat twelve to one. I cheered the team on. Greg was amongst the team, as well as friends of mine, so I knew the majority personally.
Niall claimed to be still hungry, so at intermission we went to go get some more food. He ordered the classic popcorn, more Skittles for me, and two burgers. When we got back, we noticed some seats down in front were empty. We looked at each other then nodded, wanting the better seats. He almost tripped a couple of times, being the clumsy person he is. I laughed along with him as we took our seats. While watching the game, I'd look over and just watch him. Sure, fifteen wasn't a big number, we were still young and careless, but something about him made me feel younger. He made me laugh constantly, made my heart melt when he did something sweet for me, and made smile when he sang. I love him, I really do.
I watched our good friend, baseball star Brian Bradley steps up to the plate. He knocked it against the ground a few times before swinging it in the air. Niall and I whooped and screamed and cheered like no more tomorrow. Brian hit the ball and it went soaring. From our up close seats we could see the ball fly miles. What we weren't expecting, was the bat to come swinging back, high enough to go over the chain link fence and come flying towards us, me particularly. Moving wasn't an option, it was coming towards me so fast. The impact never came though. Just the thump of my best friend hitting the ground. His eyes were threatening to close on me, meaning him leaving me. I dropped down right beside him. Screaming, I grabbed his hand and clutched his chest.
"Help! Help! Somebody, he's hurt!" I cried out to the crowd. I saw the paramedics rush down the stairs but their timing was perfect, because Niall got the words, "I love you," out to me before I saw him again unconscious in a hospital bed.
It's weird how that memory was almost like Déjà vu. I remembered when this happened around three years ago. Me sitting by his bedside, crying my eyes out for hours. To this day, I still question the words he told me. Did he mean like friends or more than that? When I whispered them back to him, I wasn't even sure what I meant. Did I love him? Of course I did! This was Niall James Horan! The boy who would save me during thunder storms and sings Taylor Swift to cheer me up.
Apparently Liam was an early riser. He woke me up around seven this morning and I chucked my pillow at him. He just laughed and turned the light on. I brought my hand out and flipped him off. "Just like Niall..." I heard him mutter. I smiled into my pillow. We were both terrible grumps in the morning.
When I walked into the small kitchen, it appeared that Liam and I were the only ones up. Liam was wearing the same as yesterday. He leaned against the kitchen counter reading a newspaper while One Thing played in the background. I laughed as he swayed along to the music.
"Morning sunshine," He threw me a cheeky wink so I flipped him off again. "Imma take you in early because we have a press report about Niall's accident." I flinched and poured myself some tea. We just stood in some sort of awkward silence with modern music in the background. I sat at the mahogany table just sipping my hot cup of tea. There was a novel at the table so I opened it up and began to read it. I loved reading. It literally took me to another world with completely different problems then my own.
I had read a good three chapters when I heard Liam swear. I looked up at him just to seem him checking his watch. "Ten minutes and we gotta go. Do you have to shower?"
