Lucy waved bye to the guild as she went out on a solo mission. It was needed watching Natsu wrap his arms around the youngest Strauss. It is said things happen for a reason, but Lucy just felt like the world was against her all over again. She stood there, watching as the doors close on their own. Waiting, wishing for him to open them and give her that big toothy smile she had learned to love so deeply. Waiting for him to open his arms to her and ask her to be his.
But he didn't. He wouldn't. Every part of that was obvious to her yet, she couldn't seem to.get her feet to move. Instead she looked down at her feet her bangs falling over her dull chocolate eyes. She stood there like that for seconds. Minutes. An hour. Two hours.
She smiled and lifted her head, putting her hand against the door she found her own strength and turned away walking further and further away from her beloved guild.
She stared at the job request she had taken. It seemed a bit higher than her level of combat but she was determined. She would prove she could hold herself against others, not needing help. She would. She had to. She had to make Natsu proud of her.
She got into her apartment and let the door close behind her until she heard the quiet click. She walked to her bedroom and got out a bag that would fit three pairs of clothes plus a little more.
She finished packing and walked to the window closing and locking it, she had asked Mira specifically not to tell Natsu that she had taken a solo mission in fear that he would come after her.
She loved the onyx eyed slayer with everything she had, she would do anything for him, but right now she could hardly stand to look at him.
She walked to the door and opened it before walking out. Getting out of the apartment building she summoned Plue before hopping onto the curve of the canal getting the usual warnings to be careful, though she just pushed them aside and continued walking while hugging the dog spirit close to her chest.
She didn't want to get in the way of the the short white haired girl and the salmon haired idiot's relationship. She felt she couldn't go back for a while. The look Mira had gave her. The pleading Gray had tried to get her to stay with. Erza begging her to say what's on her mind.
Of course they all knew her true feelings. She was about as lovesick as a puppy who had just got adopted. Even Lisanna knew, but they had made a deal as friends that they would be happy for each other. Only Lucy didn't feel she could do that. As much as she wanted to, she couldn't bring herself to be happy for her dear friend.
Especially when the one person who didn't know was the one person who had her heart beating a thousand miles an hour just by a simple smile.
Lucy had always been scared of heartbreak, but feeling it now it was worse than physical torture. Worse than watching herself die. It was every pain she had ever endured and more. So much more.
She would hide it though. She could fake smiles and force laughs. She could joke around and be humorous without feeling so.
She just needed to convince herself that she felt happy. With a little push, perhaps, maybe she could. She would be fooling everyone. Everyone except one person. The one person who knew her better than she knew herself. The one person whom her heart longed for.
Because even Natsu, as ignorant and dense as he was, knew Lucy enough to know she was hurting.
She wondered for a moment if Lisanna would hate her if she had ended up with Natsu, would she have kept her promise like Lucy had failed to?
Probably so, Lisanna is too kind and selfless to not be happy for her friends. Lucy is a fool to think anything otherwise.
The blonde got to the train station and paid for her ticket before getting on the train with her bag. She kindly greeted people as she passed by hoping she didn't seem rude. Sitting down she leaned against the window waiting for the train to move wondering what everyone was doing back at the guild.
