"A job well done, my Queen," Klause said while cleaning the blood off of his knife.
Chuckling, I said, "I couldn't do it without you, Klaw." Klause has been my second in command for so long that I couldn't remember my life before I appointed him. When I spoke the words, they were spoken with sincerity.
We had just taken out another rapist. I will never understand why some people feel the need to force themselves upon an innocent young being. It's absolutely disgusting.
I left Klause to clean up while I jumped into my car and sped home. I had been away from my brother and sister for too long.
I pulled up into the driveway of my three-story mansion located in the most rural part of France. To say I liked to live in luxury would be an understatement. My home was incredibly modern, with glass and stone walls. Titanium laced the walls for added protection. My room was on the third floor as well as my siblings' rooms.
I locked my car and after hearing the obnoxious honk, I went inside my house.
I wasn't surprised to see that the lights were still on. Zane and Cora were never ones to follow simple directions, like bedtime is 8:30 or don't shoot the guard in the foot.
I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard rambunctious laughter and footsteps coming from upstairs. Grinning, I quietly made my way up the smooth marble steps. Once I was at the top, I searched around until I found the two troublemakers.
"What are you two still doing up?" I laughed. Their heads snapped up at the same time and their faces broke into wide, toothy grins.
"Lily!" Cora said as she jumped up from the carpet. Zane followed suit and I was tackled to the floor by the twins.
"Hello to you too," I said lovingly. That was the only time I sounded like that. When I was with my family. I've never had a boyfriend or have ever been kissed. I didn't see the point of giving your heart to someone, of putting your mind and soul at risk of being broken. Besides, in my business, their was no time for romantic outings or dinners by the beach or whatever shit people do when they go out.
Cora yawned loudly and Zane rubbed his blue eyes. I smiled softly. "Bedtime, ljubavs." They nodded in agreement and followed me to their rooms.(loves)
After tucking the twins in, I went to my office to finish up some work. I don't really have breaks, probably because I'm so used to running on four hours of sleep.
As I was shifting through my files, there was a knock on the door. "Enter," I said, my voice filled with authority. One of my women stepped into the room. She bowed her head in respect and approached my desk.
"My Queen," she said. Her voice was low and hoarse from all the years of screaming battle cries. "We have a new target." She handed me the file and stood silently as I opened it.
Silence.
I stared at name and picture of the woman in the crisp white folder. The quiet seemed to stretch for an eternity until I heard a throat clear in front of me.
"We already have people on it—" I cut her off. "No." She seemed shocked when I spoke to her. "Call off whoever has been given this case. This one is mine." I growled out the last sentence.
She nodded her head. "Yes, my Queen." With that she left, leaving me in my office by myself with painful memories and that damned file.
