I stare out the window of Maryelle’s new Mustang she had purchased for the move. She’d had a huge smile on her face since the day she bought it. I, for one, thought it was way too flashy. We were heading to my new school in Seattle, Washington. Once again, I was the new kid. I could feel myself go red all over and my face got hot. Nerves, lord do I hate them. As she pulled up front, I sighed heavily and opened the door.

“Have a good day!”, Maryelle said in her I’m only saying this because I have to voice.”Oh! I’ll be picking you up right after school, so we won’t be late getting to the Vier’s  place! LOTS of unpacking to do!!”

“ ‘kay.” I said as I rolled my eyes. I shut the door and she sped off down the down the road. I turn and walk down the path that leads the open doors of the school. It was the middle of fall… I didn’t exactly get why they had the doors open. Once I came out of my daze, I realized that all eyes were on me. ME! Oh gosh, It’s Paris all over again! I hastened my walk and entered the building with the knowledge everyone’s heavy stares were still trained on me. When I rounded a corner, I sighed in relief. Nice way to start off my first day, Seattle. The horrid image of their gazing still lingered in my mind. I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to will it away.

“Oh hey!” said a male voice that seemed awfully close. My eyes flit open at the sound of it. I look up and a smiling, fit, black-haired, green eyed boy stared at me expectantly.

“Uh, hi.” My face got hot as I realized that didn’t sound very polite.

“ ‘member me?” he said, still smiling.

“Uhm, no. Should I?”

“Aw come on! We used to play together when we were younger? Erin?”

I stare at him blankly. What was he talking about? I have never been to Seattle in my whole entire life. How could I possibly remember him if I’ve never met him?! .. well, unless he’s lived somewhere else..

“Here? This is where we supposedly did all of these things?” I say.

“Well, not exactly in this spot, silly! But yeah in this city, state, and continent.”

“Then you must have the wrong person, so sorry.” I prepared to walk away.

“Hold on!”  I heard his footsteps behind me as I was already turned and heading down the hallway.

“You really don’t remember me?!” I turn around to face him.

“I have never even stepped foot in this state! How would I even know you to begin with?!”

His brow was furrowed in confusion. “But.. you’re Mckenzie Conway. I know that we played together! I have proof! It’s not exactly here with me right now, but I have it! I promise!” His voice had a pleading tone to it. He was serious. This was no practical joke that the students would like to play on the new girl. Somehow even against my wishes, I believed this boy.

“Okay..I believe you, but I cannot remember it. How old were we?”

“Like four.” He said smiling again clearly happy that he wasn’t imagining his childhood friend.

“That explains why I can only remember my childhood from five.”

“Yeah, you were actually born here. You left when you turned five, I think. No has heard from you since.”

“How many people did I know?” I asked, curious to know how popular I was.

A LOT! Your parents were really cool with a lot of families in this neighborhood.”
