I lounged next to a pool in a black bikini with maroon vine designs that my sister insisted I wear. Personally I feel bikinis to be a bit revealing, but I would never hear the end of it if I didn't. What made things more uncomfortable was the stares that people kept giving me, although I don't mind some of the women that glanced my way. I glanced at my sister swimming and chatting with some humans. I can't believe how trusting she can be with the back stabbing war mongers considering the war with them ended only three years ago. I have no doubt that any one of these humans are assassins waiting for me to let my guard down.
"Hey angel, you come from heaven?" a man asked walking up beside me.
"No, I came from the depths of the Abyss to rip out your soul." I scoffed.
"Well you look pretty good for that."
"You don't interest me, human." I said looking back to my sister.
"Come on, don't be that way."
Annoyed I gave a death glare, and he seemed stunned by the intensity of my ice blue eyes. What sent him running was the appearance of a black and ember flame in my right hand. Suddenly all movement stopped as every one saw the growing flame engulfing my body. Just as suddenly, everyone scattered as a gun shot rang though the air. Knew it. As my sister scrambled out of the pool I put up a rippling barrier blocking the shots.
"Kinetic firearms, how primitive." I scoffed. I almost pity the humans for their foolishness, almost. Calming I lowered the barrier before summoning hundreds of fiery spears in the direction of the shot, decimating the mountain side and setting it ablaze.
"Uh Iyrena, You know that was Mt. Rushmore, r-right?" my sister asked as the dust settled.
"We're screwed." I muttered, slapping my face.
"We!"
"Yes Elenna, we. It was your idea to visit Earth right as soon as you could. Not to mention dragging me along despite me being notorious for going over board in an attack or my affinity for starting fires."
After a few hours elven troop transports landed and we boarded one, only to be greeted by a not so happy father. Shit. After a few uncomfortably silent hours we reached my father's flagship, the Golden Dawn. Upon boarding Elenna and I were escorted to our rooms as father fumed over how to explain my, uh mistakes to the humans. I sat in my room polishing my blinding silver and gold ceremonial armor. I could hear Elenna freaking out over what the punishment might be. I sighed, that girl would freak out over a small bug on the floor and come close to hyperventilating over simple mistakes. My father entered the room looking calm, but his disappointment is pretty obvious in his amber eyes.
"Iyrena, your punishment will be decided by the magister counsel." he said in a deep tone that could cause frost giants to shiver.
"Yes, father." I replied. He somehow seemed know that I feared the counsel more than them. But the Ethereal Knights could act without the crown knowing. The Ethereal Knights consisting of the best warriors, mages, and rouges acted as the first and last lines of defense for the elven empire, what made them so strong was their use of magic amongst all the knights. Although, I am an exception due to my vast amounts of raw magical power with Mt. Rushmore being a prime example.
"All hands prepare for rift jump." a voice announced over the intercom as the ship lurched forward. After things settled down I went back to polishing my armor as I would need it for my meeting with the magisters.
After a few hours the intercom rang out again, announcing we where leaving rift jump. I walked into a launch bay where a transport was waiting to take me to the ethereal knight headquarters, though it could also act as a defensive platform should the need arise. Several smaller orbital stations hovered around the planet. The smaller stations serve as the homes of the elven magisters, ethereal knights that had become extremely powerful and dangerous on the battlefield.
"T-minus two minutes till we reach the ethereal knight station." the pilot said, sitting in her seat.
Once we reached the station I headed straight for an elevator that goes to the top floor, which serves as the council chambers for the magisters to meet and convene on matter such as my punishment. I exited the elevator, entering a circular room with a window forming a ring and allowing one to look out and see the elven home world, Terra.
"I hold no defense for myself, I did destroy a human monument." I said, taking a knee in the center of the room and keeping my head towards the floor.
"You acted in defense of the crown, though the king may be angry we will not punish you for fulfilling your duty." Magister Rengar, the oldest and arguably wisest of the counsel, spoke. "Now your mother wishes to see you on the surface. If your father ask, we restricted you from undertaking any missions for the time being."
"Thank you." I bowed and left and burst into flame, reappearing on Terra's surface. I looked up to see cargo ships bringing supplies to a large white and gold tower with a electronic sign marking it as the Empyrean Corporation Headquarters. A middle aged elven woman walked towards me wearing a silver business suit with a distinct high born poster but a soft motherly look to her facial expression as she smiled at me. "Mother." I greeted, about to hug her before remembering I still had the armor on, so I gave a slight bow instead. What caught my eye was a sword she was carrying, usually she just used the energy revolver strapped to her waist.
"I need to speak with you in privet." she said, losing her smile to a sadness I rarely saw on her face. Nodding I erected a bubble around us to block sound from those outside it. The workers steered clear, fully knowing what was going on. "I had this made for you, no doubt you've heard the rumors." she explained. I shook my head. What rumors is she talking about? "Magic all over the elven empire is failing." she sighed.
"My magic has just been getting stronger, but that would explain why most of the new knights aren't using magic." I explained, thinking back to my brief time on the station. Come to think of it, even the more senor knights have seemed to stop using magic almost completely. "Fine, I'll take the weapon and start training with it." I said. Strange, the weapon seems to be made of Verillium, a rare element used to make ships in the elven navy and even said to be able to synchronize with any form of magic. I focused on the blade as black flame consumed the blade and, I felt it vibrate before calming. Finally, a weapon that can withstand my magic. I dispelled the barrier and parted ways with my mother, heading back to the station's training yard.
Once on the training yard I took a closer look at the blade. Apparently my mother somehow found out my foundness for human katanas. Imay like humans, but thier weapons are something to respect. I looked over the training yard, searching for my first victim.
