Erin picked up her baby girl as she rocked her back and forth.
"Hey there Zoella, don't cry mamas got you."
Erin whispered and carefully kissed her babies forehead as her husband walked up beside her. Wrapping an arm around her waist as he looked at the baby, he didn't want the child but had Zoella to make Erin happy.

"She has your eyes."

He started looking at her oak tree eyes as Zoella stared back with a glossed over look from crying. Carefully putting her down and turning off the light.

"You realize that once she grows older she'll be harder to handle."

Niel said setting down his half-empty bottle of wine as he let his hand slip from her side. Walking out and deciding to get some rest, Erin loved her husband but felt them drifting apart. Not wanting to believe it she turned off the light and walked across the hall to the bedroom.

As of now, it was Zoella's ninth birthday as she walked up the stairs. Knocking on the locked basement door, hearing a woman giggle.

"Daddy, can I come out now?"

Looking down as her short hair came into sight, it was a bob haircut but she didn't mind. Niel kicked the door making her jump back, holding onto the railing and making her way down the stairs. It was dark and the only light source was a tall, rusted lamp. The lampshade was off and the lightbulb had to be hit a few times. She sat down on the hard floor the only company she had was a stuffed dog. Its right eye was missing and it had a voice recording of her mother. Crawling a few feet over, gently picking it up she pressed its harden paw.

"Hi, sweetheart! Happy birthday! I know this is your special day and I just want to let you know

that I love you very much! Your smile is precious and you always make me laugh! Love you!"
With that, the recording cut off as she hugged the bear close to her. Wishing her mother was still around but it didn't matter, Erin died of a sickness. That's what Niel told her anyways, Zoella set down the bear gently and got up to look out the window. Climbing up on a table and looking outside the small window. Kids on their bikes and playing games, climbing down and avoiding the corner. Laying down on the floor as she used the bear as her pillow, letting her heavy eyelids drop. Waking up what felt as if it was five minutes later to her father calling her. Stumbling up the stairs she caught herself from falling as her father looked down at her.

"Did you get the neighbor kids attention?"

"No, sir."

She said looking up at him and rubbing her eyes as they adjusted to the sudden light rays.

"Then why did they come over to tell me you were always in the basement."

She shrugged since there was no decent response to that. Zoella felt a tug at her hair from his hand, putting her hands there to try to get him off. Niel leaned in and whispered in her ear the strong smell of alcohol on him.

"If it wasn't your birthday I would have thrown you down the stairs."

He leaned up and pushed the back of her head as she caught herself. He said some remark about how she needed to shower since she smelled similar to urine.

"Yes, father."

Niel smiled and chuckled as he leaned against the counter.

"Love you Daughter of mine."He called as Zoella didn't respond, walking out of the kitchen and to the other hallway. All the down was her bedroom, it was luxury compared to the basement. The twin sized bed was neatly made, the dresser was set nicely up. Walking over and opening the second drawer from the bottom getting out some pants with holes at the bottom. Closing the drawer with a slight push since it was quite old. Standing up and reaching up to open the top drawer grabbing a blue tank top. Zoella grabbed some socks and under garments as she walked to the bathroom. After her shower she heard shuffling. Her father told her to wait before going down multiple times before, she peered downstairs just in case. Her father put a rag on over her mouth and she couldn't remember what happened but woke up tied to a bed. The room was darker than any room she's woken up in before. Niel messed with the dial on a ship as he got up, looking out into space. He shook his head and walked down the hallway, the door opened and he looked at his daughter. Taking her on this wasn't his plan but she saw him, as Zoella struggled and began to cry. He turned on the light making her wince. He walked over to a small table by the bed and picked up a pocket knife. Zoella sniffed and waited till he got close, she kicked his knee and the pocket knife landed by her which she curled her fingers to get. Cutting off the rope on her left wrist, slitting her wrist on accident a few times. Her father looked at his knee seeing it was dislocated as she curled up by her right wrist. Cutting it quickly and running out of the room, down the dim hallway and ended up in the control room. Zoella heard her father curse loudly behind her and she looked out the giant window out to space, asteroids passed them as they drifted into nothing. She stared at the void in distress and began to cry as any child would, her father began limping down the hall but went into the medical center. A few feet down the hall to the right of the room Zoella was in, she crawled under the control panel and curled up in a ball. Calming her breath and waiting to hear her father, it was suppose to be her birthday a happy day. She rubbed her thumb up and down on the pocket knife, hoping she was small enough to not be noticed. Her fear controlled her most the time around him she was scared and wanted her mother, her stuffed animal, or anything to protect her. It was hard to tell what was happening but the ship was bumped by something it shook as if it was a mountain that hit them. Zoella closed her eyes and covered her ears as something went off, an alarm flashed red and had a loud high pitch buzzing noise. Unanswered questions stormed her head as the ship went from shaking to still, a scream escaped her throat as three people approached the control system. Watching their feet as one of them began to kneel, one of them looked her straight in the eye.

"We're not here to hurt you, come out."
