a year of promises

// this is something i wrote on my one year anniversary with my boyfriend, it is one of my favorites :)

i promise to never leave your side.

when your world is falling apart,

i can't promise to be the glue

to put it all back together.

but i will sit with you,

hold your hand.

so you won't have to watch it fall alone.

i promise to love you.

when you don't love yourself,

when you mess up.

and when you question why,

i can't promise i can give you an answer.

for the correct words do not exist

or at least,

i cannot form them,

to describe why exactly

i adore you so.

i promise to listen.

when it doesn't make sense to me,

or even to you.

i cannot promise to understand

but i assure you

that i will listen intently.

sometimes that's all you need.

i promise to brace myself.

when the tension is high.

i cannot promise that we will always agree,

but i will always try my best

to make amends, as i know you will too.

i promise to hold onto hope.

when we can't see tomorrow past tonight.

when it all gets to be too much.

i cannot promise that it will be easy,

but i will always remember our first year

and look forward to each to come.
