Years ago, when I was five years old, I would talk to my sister in my room. We would talk for hours about little kid things like barbies or mickey mouse or something. The only thing was, I could only talk to her in my room. When I would come out of my room I would tell my mother about everything.
"Hi, mommy! Taylor says hi!" My mother would always look at me and chuckle. She would pick me up and set me on her lap. "Tell your little imaginary friend I said hi back."
That would always confuse me when I was little because Taylor looked like me, for the most part, and she said we were twin sisters. She knew our mom's name so I believed her. But mom wouldn't believe me and she would say it's just an imaginary friend.
Three years pass.
I'm eight years old at this point and I still talk to Taylor. She seems to grow at the same rate I do because she still looks like me except she's a bit taller. At this point, I was smarter and I was trying to convince myself that Taylor was an imaginary friend. I would always talk to Taylor about mom and she would always say that I shouldn't trust her. I would ask her why but Taylor always said she couldn't remember.
Seven more years pass.
I'm fifteen. My mother thinks that I'm going insane because I still talk to Taylor. I know that Taylor is not an imaginary friend because I would've gotten over her by now. I ask her if I'm crazy but she's always here to reassure me about things. It's like she's there for me like a big sister would. I would always tell mom about the conversations I had. She would always say, "Haven't you gotten over that imaginary friend of yours?" I would sigh and look at her. Usually I would go back to my room but this time I said something, "Taylor says she's my twin sister." When my mom and I were talking she was doing the dishes, but she suddenly stopped. She looked at me with a frightened expression on her face, "Elise... you don't have a sister!" She said it so fast and turned back around to finish the dishes, I almost didn't believe her. It was as if she was guilty of something. I said okay and went back to my room to tell Taylor. When I returned to my room I saw Taylor all bloody, half of her face was smashed and she was holding a bloody hatchet. "Taylor what happened to you?" Taylor walked up to me and sighed. "It's time you knew."
I sat down on my bed and I looked at her. She began telling her story. "Elise, we are twins yes but I am older by a few hours. When our mother figured out she was having two children, she got upset. She only wanted one child. I was the first to come out and she was hoping the second one would die so she wouldn't have to do any 'dirty work' as she called it. When you came out, you were healthier than I was. I had a weak heart. She took both of us home without any concern for me. When we got home you were put into your crib and she put me on the kitchen counter. She left us there and she went to the basement to get a hatchet. Once she came back up she gave me one last goodbye. She started smashing my head but I didn't make any noise. The first hit killed me but she didn't know that and just kept going to make sure I was dead. Once she was done she put me in a box and hid me away in our room. In the top shelf closet. You can't smell me because she puts a whole bunch of air fresheners by my box."
I looked at Taylor about to cry. I stood up and went to hug her. Taylor was shocked that I didn't go through her but she hugged back anyway. "How did you know all of this stuff if you were a baby?" I let go so I could look at Taylor as she talked. "I see everything that happens in my dreams." I look at her and I cry even more when I hear banging on the door and Taylor vanishes.
"Elise Leanne Watson! Come out here now!" I looked at my door frightened out of my mind. I looked up at my window above my bed and started to climb. I hear my mom groan of frustration. She opens the door to the sight of me trying to escape. I see her and I try to get out faster until I feel to hands at my ankles. "You can't escape me! Now that you know the truth I have to kill you. Come to join your sister!" I screamed and kicked but that loosened my grip on the window sill and she ended up dragging me down to the floor. She pinned me down and smiled at me maliciously. "Bye bye Elly!" I screamed and she lifted a hatchet and she started hitting my head giving me the same fate that Taylor did.
Once she was done, she took Taylor's box and my body and she brought us to the backyard where she buried us.
