Epilogue
8 years later
As I entered the apartment at Vancouver my eyes went onto the name mentioned on the door - Riley & X Freeman(readers will get to know who is 'X' by end of the Epilogue). I smiled and went into flashback............
Before I leave, I had one last thing remaining. I immediately shot for my phone, scanned through the contact list and dialed a number.
"Hello..." came from other side.
"Sawyer.....can you show up? My last words with you aren't yet over", I said weakly.
"Yeah....coming in 10 minutes", he said.
A short knock at the door disturbed my trail of thoughts and I asked to come in. I saw Sawyer entering the ward.
"I-I need your favour, Sawyer, please don't deny", I asked obligingly.
"Yeah, what??", he said.
"I, you know have made you two uncomfortable around each other", I said.
"Don't talk like that....Silly", he said dismissively.
"Please, for god's sake please mend up things with Mason and it will be best time since me being not around you two. I and Mason are no more together....you getting that.... I mean, he loves you Sawyer more than anything or anyone" , I exclaimed.
"Just shut up Riley...and please ask me to do anything but that", he said.
"Sawyer, don't think I am complaining or what, I want you to know his love for you and he wants you back...REALLY...he regrets hurting you and taking away all your joys just because of emotional weakness...that's why he has chosen you over me. He wants to fight for you and not against you", I said.
"So you say he left you because of me", he said.
"That's exactly where you are wrong...listen up...this is his deepest love for you as he can't bear you hurt. In my case I am a new comer in your lives. Don't you dare spoil your brotherly relations coz of me. You get that", I said fuming.
He hung his head low and said "Ok...I will do it...".
I sighed.." Promise me I will see my best buddies together again whenever I return!!"
He gave his hand and before he left, he said" Goodbye...Riley, hoping to see you then".
"Goodbye Sawyer and remember your promise", I said. He nodded & disappeared out of the door.
5 months later since I left Vancouver
Last day at school was an emotional one. I bid bye to Mandy, Eva, Terri as to who knew where we were to head for graduation. I filled quite a few university forms. I thought how insane I was to fill or U of V(Univ. of Vancouver) back then. It made no difference since I was to continue at U of T.
I slipped into my casuals and opened up my laptop.
My heart leapt an unusual skip when I saw Sawyer's video call request. I had been talking to him and others back these months except 'One' who would show, smile half-heartily and just go offline without a word. Mason.
I answered his call as he said "Hiii......wat's up...Riley....long time, huh?"
"Yeah...bit a long....I am fine...how are the others and my cutie pie Liam , specially", I asked.
"Everyone's fine except Mas-Mason", he sighed. He paused for a moment. "Riley, you need to know this, he is completely drained since you left, hardly talks to anyone, he often goes for an escape now, he sketches your pictures more often. It's been years since he last laughed".
Silence prevailed for a few minutes. With a heavy sigh Sawyer said "He needs you badly. Come and save him before we loose him once and for all. I liked you but I found it was just a liking ,a mere attraction, I have moved on. I have recovered from your memories. But he is lost as he was few years back. Save my brother, Riley, please".
Tears were brimming my eyes before I stood up and said goodbye to Sawyer and launched downstairs. "Mom-Dad, I wanna talk to you. You know I was to stay here and go to U of T but I-I-I", I stammered. "I am hoping for U of V now". Before they could say anything. "It's a very good University too. And besides it's a call from my friends. I too feel I need to set some things right". Mom seemed to understand something and she smiled.
"Why a sudden change of mind, honey?", dad called out. It took me full 3 days to explain with various logical reasons. He succumbed finally.
"Be safe and call everyday and don't go out alone at night and say our hello to the Freemans and ....."
"Okk...Mom-Dad", I cut in and said goodbye as I boarded my plane.
In plane I met air hostess Sophie. Once school's Social Service Club president & my high school senior. I greeted her. She treated me warmly during the flight.
"I am coming Vancouver. I am coming Mason". I thought to myself. I didn't inform anybody as I hoped to give everyone a big surprise. I landed there in two and a half hours. It was late night. I hesitated a bit. "Maybe its not a good idea to inform nobody, Riley Brooks", I scolded myself.
I moved out slowly when I saw somebody. I approached him till I could find he was........Mason.
" Oh, Mom....", I said under my breath. She would have informed the Freemans about my coming.
I picked up speed as I approached him. As I neared him I could see his pale face filled with excitement. His swollen eyes emotionally looking at me. I opened my arms to hug him. Being immensely excited I jumped on him and we fell to the floor. We kissed each other. I then got up alarmed at having created a scene at the airport.
He too got up. I was too emotional to say anything. "How are you....I missed you so much", he said with wet eyes.
" I am fine.....and I too missed you so very much" , I spoke.
We smiled at each other and exited the airport.
I saw somebody waiting in the car. "Hi.....Sawyer, nice to see you again" , I chuckled.
"Hi Riley, same here......I hope you don't mind meeting my girlfriend", he said.
Having noticed that someone else was seated on passenger seat next to him, I moved with curiosity to see her face.
"Hey..........Avery......Omg........how are you?", I said jumping towards her and greeting with tightest hug. "What a pleasant surprise by you two......completely", I chuckled in amazement.
" Yeah.......how are you......we all missed you" , she said blushing.
"C'mom Riley, get in we need to head home, its already late" , said Mason.
We headed down the long road with me and Mason in the back seat. My head rested on his shoulder. It gave the greatest relief. I never want this journey to be over. I sighed when he said.
"Don't forget to strike off another wish from your Bucket List".
I smiled back in his eyes remembering the airport scene.
And this is what it looks like a Happy Ending.
