Prologue

My heart beat erratically within my chest as I pumped my arms with more power, forcing myself to pick up speed.

As I rounded the corner it was only then that I realized where I had led myself.

Oh no, I thought, of all places why here!

I was cornered, with nowhere to go. I frantically searched for any kind of an escape route; a door, a fire escape, anything! My time was running out, that much I knew.

Perhaps it would be easier to just give up now, die without putting up a fight.

No! Fight through this! A small voice within my head screamed at me. A voice I hadn't heard from in what seemed like centuries. A voice that spoke with such confidence and bravery. A voice that I had long forgotten about.

In my panic-stricken state, I failed to notice the entrance of another presence that had stepped into the dark alley.

Before I realized it, a set of large arms entangled me around my waist, pulling me to their chest.

My whole body turned to ice, standing frozen within the massive pair of arms. As I was about to open my mouth to release an ear-piercing scream, a hard hand quickly covered my mouth.

Leaning into my ear, a male voice whispered, "I wouldn't do that if I were you".

The manner in which the voice spoke in was threatening. It dripped with coldness and didn't hold an ounce of sarcasm.

Leaning into my ear one last time the voice whispered, "Your mine princess, don't ever forget that."

I shivered.
