You sit at the table watching the clock.
"He should be here by now!" You think to yourself. He only went to get to pick up the milk, that was hours ago. The shops not even that far away! Maybe he just got stuck in traffic or he went to pick something up or he ran into a friend and started chatting. But surely he would've called or something!
The phone rings and you jump, the noise startling, but you rush to the phone.
"Hello Mrs Cumberbatch?" The voice on the other end greets concerned.
"Yes? Who's this?" You reply, a sudden dread washing over you.
"I'm afraid something's happened. You should come right now..." Before they can say anything else, you hang up, grab your coat and hurry out the door, through the drizzle of rain and into the car. As you drive to the hospital, your mind goes to December and think of when he asked you, he bent down on his knees and said, "I want you forever, forever and always. I want to grow old together. Y/N Will you marry me?"
You pull up to the entrance and walk up to the front desk, they hardly need to ask who you are, you're in all the magazines with him. They lead you down halls and talk about what happened but you can't understand a word they say. They lead you to his room and you try so hard not to cry. He's hooked up to machines, you can see his heart rate. You sit by him an squeeze his hand.
"Benedict?" You whisper. He turns to face you.
"Y/N." he smiles weakly. You try so hard not to cry, and he notices, "Tell me about our children." He asks looking at your stomach, it was only the day before that you told him you were pregnant.
"They'll have curly auburn hair like you, and green eyes." You tell him. He smiles, "They can't all look like me." He says. You nod but continue talking about the children anyway, and your house and your future together.
All of a sudden, you get an idea and you call the nurse, bring in the chaplain, who says a couple verses, take out the rings you had bought and stuffed in your coat pocket when you went to look for wedding rings. An impromptu wedding.
"I want you forever, forever and always. Through good times and the bad. We'll grow old together, just like you said. I will always love you Benedict." You vow as you slip the ring on his finger. He smiles and you can see his eyes smart, his hand weak yet still in yours.
"I'll love you forever, forever and always. I want to grow old together, see our child grow up. Comfort and protect you.I want more time." His voice is almost low at this point, "Please, always remember that even if I'm not there, I will always love you. Forever and always."
