Loki never prayed. Why should he? He was a god. But even with all his tricks and spells, he couldn't bring you back.

You were in hospital, you had been in a terrible car accident and the doctor's didn't know if you'd make it. So Loki, although grieved by the news, refused to believe it. You were still alive, you could come back.

For weeks he hardly left the hospital, choosing instead to stay by your side, his hand holding yours. "It's a new day Y/N," he would often greet, "Please wake up so we can enjoy it together." But, although somedays you could hear him, you weren't able to respond. It was because of this Loki prayed. He didn't know how or to whom, he just hoped it would work. After all there had been some miracles in this hospital before, why not try for himself?

When he was finished, tears rolled down his cheeks, he sobbing hard from pleading. A nurse appeared from seemingly nowhere only to say, "Sometimes He says no." Before exiting the room, and the two of you are alone again.

Something inside you makes you stir and you manage to open your eyes slightly, they fall on Loki who's pretending he hasn't been crying.

"Y/N, you're awake!" He exclaims happily, loud enough for some nurses to hear. You swallow, it's a little hard to breathe, "I love you Loki." You tell him, your voice barely audible.

"I love you too." He smiles weakly before kissing your forehead. You wince when he sits back down, you can almost feel your body shutting down, "I'm sorry Loki for putting you through this." Each word is a struggle. Loki's expression is serious yet his eyes and voice are pleading, "Don't leave me Y/N! Please don't leave me!" He begs. A tear escapes your eye and your voice is sorrowful yet weak, "I'm sorry Loki. I'm so sorry. I love you." You whisper for a final time. Your hand falls limp in his hand and a whisp of white escapes your body. Medical staff come surround you but Loki closes your eyes. As they take notes and examine you or do whatever they so with new dead bodies, Loki just hunches in his chair, sobbing and refusing to let go of your hand. The doctor's are patient and they wait until Loki's said his goodbye before taking you away, but he doesn't want to say goodbye. He wants to say hello, he wants to be with you forever because life on earth without you is meaningless. So he kisses your lips, your nose, your forehead, savouring your touch, "I will always love you." he mutters until finally, he can't bear the feeling of having you dead in the room with him, and he leaves, your last words playing in his mind. "I love you to." He mutters again facing the sky, "I love you too."
