"I don't believe in love." I say softly. "At least not for me."

I can feel his hard eyes focus on me. It's intimidating.

"Why?" He demands.

His tone is hard, angry? He just wouldn't understand, or perhaps he does. I smile.

"Why do you want to know? You don't believe in it either. You're rude, condescending, mean. You wouldn't understand."

My words are harsh, yet my tone is soft like a older woman speaking to a young child. But he's no child, he's got secrets darker than I know. He's deeper in the grave than I am. The silence that passes between us is cold and distant. We're both distant from the world and everyone around us. We're both cold, calculating, dangerous,in our own ways. Him more than me.

"Don't be a hypocrite, believe in the fucking thing." He says angrily before he leaves the classroom.

My smile quickly fades away. "I think I'm starting to." I whisper softly and the words are knifes to my heart because I know I don't deserve it, and he doesn't want it.
