Lunch Time

I usually love lunch. I get to eat. I get to talk. I get caught up on any homework I didn't do. But today, things were different.

Noble was having a rough time it looked like. A lot of dudes, mainly the jocks, were coming up to him and pouring their gross, school lunch food on him. Eventually, Mia's boyfriend did this, and she stood up and pushed him to the ground.

"What the hell is your problem?" She asked.

"Babe, what do you mean?" He asked, pretending to not have done anything.

"I mean you're joining in with your idiot friends and harming Noble!" Mia said in a rage of anger.

To this Mia's boyfriend, Grayson, or Gray for short, replied, "He's gay. He deserves it."

"Okay, that's it! I'm breaking up with you!"

Mia was about to storm off, when Gray asked, "Why?"

To this Mia turned around, a dark shade of red. "Why? Why? WHY? I'll tell you why! One: you are blatantly homophobic. Two: You are blatantly racist. Three: You've cheated on me multiple times, each time saying you'll change. I'm sorry, but this is reason enough to break up with you. And I'm sorry, just because Noble is sitting with girls doesn't mean he's gay. There are three other guys, WHO ARE OUR FRIENDS, who sit with us!!!"

To that, Noble piped in, "She's right, I'm not gay. I'm actually very very pan."

I froze in my seat. Pan? What was that? I had only heard of gay, lesbian, and bi. Pan? I probed Nobel a bit farther.

"What's... Pan?" I asked.

"It means I can like any gender, so male, female, non binary, etcetera," Nobel replied.

"What... Other sexualities are there?" I wanted answers.

But to that, Noble stood up and walked away to throw out his trash. Noble did that sometimes. He was a very distant person.

"Oh my god Clarissa. Maybe you just need to find the right person! I'd suggest just going in a ton of first dates until something clicks! That's how I wound up with Kevin!" Suggested Stephen, who was seriously the gayest person ever and probably my best friend. And it's not homophobic coming from me, a straight person, he's admitted it, and, come on, the man wants to be a drag queen when he graduates!

I considered the advice for a moment, thinking. That did make sense. If I just kept trying, something would click. I'd finally feel the attraction that's never been there. I'd finally stop being different. Right? Right.

I was going to try it.
