~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It'd been a month since I'd been faced with the heartbreaking news of my mother's death. I'd been at school when I got told the news. I remember the very moment, being called out of class and sent to the office. I was faced sitting in front of my dad, who i'd not seen in 10 years after he moved to New York. His face was ghostly pale with streaks of salty tears running down his face. From that moment, staring into my dads eyes, I knew something terrible had happened. And it didn't take long, before I found out.
Initially I'd been told by the school to take time off. Actually no, the head masters words were "I'm so sorry for your loss Ashley, please take as much time off as you need." Thinking back, it was a bit of a stupid thing for him to suggest really, had he seriously been expecting me to still go to school? Of course I was going to take time off, I didn't care how long, I just wanted everyone and everything to disappear so I could mourn, alone .
The first week had gone by with a blur. I'd stayed rooted to my bed, not wanting to be disturbed. My dad had slept downstairs, dealing with the continuous flow of people knocking on the door to deliver "sorry for your loss" cards and presents to go with them. By the end of the first week, the kitchen table was stacked and almost overflowing with the unopened gifts and cards we'd been given. Neither I or dad had dared to open any of them, in fear of the pained memories that'd accompany them.
My friends from school had knocked a few times, only to be told by my dad that I was either asleep, or didn't want visitors. It was selfish of me not to want to talk to them, or even share their company. And thinking back, that's probably the reason I feel so isolated now. After being told numerous times that I 'wasn't up to seeing anyone' my friends gave up hope, and stopped visiting. At the time, I was grateful that they'd finally realised that I wanted to just be left alone.
But now, A month later; I miss my friends. I miss having contact with the people I was so close to. It feels like not only have I lost my mother, but everyone else too.
Sooooo.... How'd I do for my first chapter? I realise that it's relatively short, but I wanted it to be that way, to keep things simple.
I hope you enjoyed it, and get ready for the next chapter which will only be better!
Thank you :)
