The Road Not Taken
Prologue:
Groping the innocent woman below him she beat her firsts on the drunk's shoulder trying to force him away but her small frame would not inflict damage on the man. Her right hand had a wedding band wrapped around her ring finger, the gold was pure and shone in the night. Panicked thoughts ran through her mind as she looked in the gem, seeing her betrothed's face.
"You're a pretty lady." The drunk slurred, puffing he blew his wretched breath in Victoria's face. She sputtered, trying to rid her nostrils of the smell that could wake the dead.
"Get your hands off me you pitiful drunk!" Her proper response only angered the drunk's temper, in response he picked Victoria up with ease. Throwing her over his shoulder he began to walk down the dirt street, his steps were not stable and multiple times he almost fell. Victoria looked up in her struggle and saw a man walking away from the scene. Victoria reached her hand out in hope the man would stop.
"Sir! Sir! Please help me!" Her please reached the man's ears and he pause. "Sir! Please help me!" She cried out again and the man was unmoving. He felt responsible on one end that this woman was going to be taken advantaged of but on the other side of his body he knew she was not his issue.
In the impending silence the drunk fell, letting go of Victoria's legs but landed heavily on her feet. She laid on the ground in a heap along with the fabric that made up her dress.
Quickly she tried to pull her feet free and thankfully succeeded, panting and puffing out noises of effort. once free she tried to stand but her ankle gave out and after letting out a yell of sharp pain she fell to the ground again and began to crawl.
But the drunk was working against her efforts and pulled himself to his feet., regaining his bearings he shook his head and a line of drool flung side to side like one of the mutt dogs that roamed the streets. "Where are ye goin' girly?" An Irish accent came out of the man's words which were slurred and barley understood by Victoria's ears.
The man lunged his hand forward and grabbed Victoria's legs again. Victoria screamed and the sound left her small, dainty lips as the drunk dragged her towards him. Somehow the man with no thought process at the moment was able to fling her body, once again, over his shoulder.
"Oh no ye don't. Me and ye are goin' to have some fun."He grinned, looking ahead at the dirt street. With missing teeth he looked like a man who would sell candy to children and lie of how candy had not rotten his teeth. Victoria wished that he was a good man and was going to let her go but she knew the truth. The constant alcohol had killed his teeth and constant tavern fights lost him his teeth.
Victoria beat the man's back screaming words at him but no foul language passed her lips, evin in a situation as horrid as this she did not falter in being a proper young woman. "Unhand me you-you wretched man! Put me down!"
"Do ye shut up girl?"
"How dare you! My husband will find you but if you put me down I wo-"
"What? What are ye goin' to d-do?" He hiccuped and turned into a small alley and dumped the girl on the ground as roughly as possible. She began to pant and looked round for an exit but none was apparent except for the way she came in.
"Please please please..." Victoria began to cry, hoping the man might be kind and allow her freedom. The innocence she held between her legs was the last thing she owned. "Please I will give my jewels, ring, earrings, necklace, money, anything! My husband will give it to you if you just please please let me go!" Tears ran down her perfect face and her heart beat was as fast as that of a running steed.
"I'll get to those but first-" The drunk reached down and ripped the front of Victoria's dress off. Victoria screamed and tried to cover herself but the drunk dropped to his his knees and straddled her body, pulling her arms out of the way. Once the scrawny arms were out of the way he began to feel up one of her legs, under her dress. "Such pretty legs." The man brought a hand to her face but Victoria jerked away before he could touch her. "What shame you keep them covered up."
"To discourage brutes such as yourself!" Victoria spat but it did no good the man to went to continue what he started.
The man still stood in the road, moonlight causing him to look like nothing but a silhouetteJasper knew not wether to help or to leave her to the impending future. What would happen to the poor woman if he left her in the hands of the drunk? But what good would it do him to save her? She was most likely just another girl, shallow and only waiting to be married off.
And when Jasper took a step the future was set.
