Cific and his brother started to gather their gear, granted almost everything they used in combat could be summoned on command but that wasn't the point. They needed to look armed so they grabbed everything from their chests and storage room and left. Shadowdancer opened a portal that would take them to the world that they needed to go to. Portal travel was fast and very effective but it left the one who opened the portal very weak, meaning that Shadowdancer would have to rest for awhile before he would be able to continue, but the brothers found a loophole around the after affect. Cific had created potions that would restore anyone's stamina instantly, he always had them on hand and they proved useful on more than one occasion. They stepped through and Shadowdancer dropped to one knee panting, Cific knelt down and gave his brother the potion. Shadowdancer drank it and stood thanking his brother with a simple nod.
"These really do help." Shadowdancer said grinning.
"I know." Cific replied walking down a stone path.
The path that they were following led the two down to the Kings Palace. There they found multiple groups of mercenaries there, even the White Talon. Everyone had their eyes on the two brothers as soon as they entered the room. There was silence as they walked to a corner and set down their gear.
"Stay clear of those guys until we have what we came for."
Shadowdancer heard one of the Hunters say.
"They already don't trust us." Shadowdancer said looking towards them.
Cific looked to where his brother was and smirked.
"Oh well, we can't always make friends right brother?" He joked.
Shadowdancer smiled and nodded. They were here to get the hunt over with and get the runes. That meant no time to deal with the riffraff. A loud noise caught the attention of everyone in the room, all eyes turned to the King who was making his way to his throne. He stood in front of it and surveyed the room.
"Thank you all for accepting my invitation, as you know I have a very serious problem. I have called for you all because I believe that you are all the best at hunting down these beasts."
Shadowdancer and Cific grunted.
"This monster has destroyed a vast amount of my kingdom and has ravaged my people for far too long, I want him destroyed. The payment will be what I offered, Seven Sacred Runes, no more no less. Now then let us feast and tomorrow at dawn you may all depart. Good luck and good fortune."
The King finished his speech then sat on his throne clapping his hands once. Servants came out from behind the throne and started to set up tables and seats and they brought in an abundant amount of food. Everyone began to eat, everyone except for the brothers of course. They sat in their corner and meditated. Unlike everyone else they were bred to be warriors. They trained everyday in both the body and mind, making them cunning and vicious. Everyone started to sing and dance and make a mess of things, that was the cue for the brothers to leave and rest before the fight.
"Okay so how are we going to do this?" Cific asked sitting on the floor drawing a map of the landscape.
"Are we going to rush in first and kill it instantly? Oh wait, we can split up and take it from different angles, I can go from behind and strike the killing blow while you get its attention on you from the front. Oh even better we can-"
"We aren't going to do anything." Shadowdancer interrupted him.
"What?"
"You heard me, we are going to let that Tal destroy everyone else and then we are going to kill it."
Cific crossed his arms and grunted.
"That's no fun."
"Brother we aren't here to have fun or even to toy with this one. I sensed it as soon as we came into this world. It is far more powerful than any other one we have fought before. Let it kill the others and then we will strike." Shadowdancer explained.
"Fine, but I want to be the one to kill it this time!" Cific said sternly.
Shadowdancer nodded with a chuckle then turned over in his bed to sleep.Morning came and with it everyone who had came to claim their prize awoke. They all gathered in the main hall and awaited the opening of the doors. When the giant doors opened everyone except for the two Tal-Vasoroth's ran out of them and towards the giant pillars of smoke. Shadowdancer and Cific walked behind the group at a leisurely pace eating a bit of breakfast. When everyone reached the smoke, they found an entire village burning, the survivors running in panic. Some of the mercenaries grabbed the villagers and began rushing them back to the castle for safety while the rest engaged the Giant Tal-Vasoroth.
"Hey look, there they are." Cific pointed at the fight below.
"Yup, lets go find something that isn't on fire to watch them." Shadowdancer said.
The brothers jumped onto a small house on the edge of the village and watched as the Tal devastated the mercenaries. It fought with a sense of savagery that caught the attention of Shadowdancer.
"See that, its fighting like it is trying to protect something. Cific I am going to have a look around." Shadowdancer said.
"What for?"
"A cave or something that it could hide eggs, treasure, or its young. Remember our cousins are more feral than most. This one hasn't ascended yet, but I have a feeling that if it does it can be very powerful, I also think this one is female."
Cific looked at it and sighed.
"So we aren't going to kill it?" He said disappointed.
"That depends on if there are any eggs or living offspring nearby." Shadowdancer replied.
"Hey, look brother!" Cific pointed to a group of fifteen White Talon Hunters who broke off from the group and started to explore the outskirts of the village.
"I'll follow them, if she attacks you then defend yourself but do not kill it until I tell you to. I'll fire a white flare into the sky."
Cific nodded and kept his eyes on the ever dwindling mercenaries. Shadowdancer hopped off of the rooftop and followed behind the Hunters quietly and invisibly. Sure enough the group he followed went to a cave and inside were the cries of infant Tal-Vasoroth's.
"Right, arm yourselves, lets get rid of these." Their Captain ordered.
"I don't think so." Shadowdancer said revealing himself.
The Hunters all turned around and aimed their weapons at him.
"Now that is no way to treat a guest." Shadowdancer said walking towards them summoning a black blade that was covered in dark flames.
Two of the Hunters ran into the cave while the rest charged at Shadowdancer. He smirked and let them come.Cific watched as the last few Hunters were killed and thrown aside. With no one left the Tal turned to look at Cific.
"You...Help...Paci" the Tal spoke in Cific's head.
"What the? You can speak?"
"All...speak...children...sick"
Cific stood and leaped from his rooftop and landed right in front of her.
"My brother and I will help you." Cific looked up at her.
The Tal picked him up then turned and raced towards her cave. When they arrived they saw Shadowdancer covered in blood and facing off against the Captain of the White Talon.
"Brother! The Tal can speak!" Cific shouted to Shadowdancer.
"All Tal's can speak! Get inside they are after the young!" Shadowdancer shouted while defending against a flurry of the captains attacks.
Cific jumped out of the Tal's hands and ran into the cave summoning his shield and sword. When he entered the room he saw both of the Hunters cleaning their blades while the bodies of dead Tal-Vasoroth infants lay scattered across the cave floor. Cific became enraged and ran towards them ramming his horns into one then using his shield he smashed the others head until he was slamming the shield into the ground. When the Giant Tal entered the room she ran past Cific and to her young, she stared at their bodies in horror and let out a cry that shook the walls of the cave. Shadowdancer walked into the room holding the head of the Captain. Cific stood and pulled the hunter from off of his horns and ripped him in two pieces bathing in his blood.
"I was too late." Cific looked down.
Shadowdancer looked at the bodies and sighed heavily.
"My...Children" She said quietly, her voice filled with sorrow.
She turned to them, her eyes full of sorrow and anger.
"Revenge" She said to them.
"Wait we are the same race, you don't have to fight us! We can take you to the man who made those people kill your children." Cific said stepping forward.
The Tal looked at them both then back at the bodies of her children.A thunderous boom shook the King's castle walls.
"Must be a massive battle out there." He said with a light chuckle to the servants and his Queen.
A second boom, followed by a third then a final boom with broke the doors of the main hall and sent them flying, crushing a few of the King's guards. The Giant Tal-Vasoroth entered and roared a ferocious roar. Shadowdancer and Cific were right next to her. The King raced down the stairs, caught a glimpse of them, then raced back up and deeper into the castle.
"All right, you can go after the King and we will handle the guards and any soldiers we find, okay?" Shadowdancer said to her.
She nodded then charged after the King. Shadowdancer and Cific split up and began their carnage. Shadowdancer was elegant with his blade, his movements were fluid and his blade seemed to be a part of him. Swiftly and beautifully he would cut into the guards, severing limbs and heads from the ones who owned them. His tail acted as a whip and would either stun or grab his enemies. The ones he would grab ended up being splatters on the walls or floor but the ones he stunned he would finish with his blade, hands, or clawed feet. Now Cific was different, Cific was a Berserker, this means that his attacks were more brutal and violent than anyone else. He used his horns, the spikes on his knuckles, forearms, shoulders, feet, and even his tail, which was also covered in spikes. He used whatever weapons he could find as well as the sword and shield he could summon. Cific had a weird fetish for grabbing his enemies by the neck with his tail and twisting it causing their necks to be shred open or their heads to fall off. He would ram them into walls with his shoulder or some times beat them to death with his bare hands. He got this trait from Shadowdancer, who was the previous Berserker until his second Ascension. Cific was almost ready for his second Ascension, where he would pass the Berserker's powers and skills to his children or anyone in his bloodline or his brothers. For now, he enjoyed the sounds of crushed skulls and blood splatters. The brothers finished the guards with ease then ran after the Tal. When they found her they saw the Kings left leg on the floor and her chewing the rest of him. When she swallowed she suddenly lit up, light and darkness surrounding her body and engulfing her entirely. Shadowdancer and Cific shielded their eyes and dug their claws into the ground. When the light faded away the two looked and saw the Tal had reached her First Ascension.
"Whoa! Cool!" Cific said looking at her.
She turned to face them.
"My name is Mae."
