When we got back to my room, I sat on my bed and kicked off my shoes."For God's sake will you relax?" I said slightly annoyed. Dimitri had been pacing back and forth since I closed my bedroom door. It was like watching a kid hyped up off of pixie sticks. He stopped mid-stride and turned to me, disbelief coating his face like fresh paint. "How can you be so calm right now? Did you not just see that deer whose throat you ripped out?" His movements were frantic as he walked closer to me. I took this time to study his face and saw something I had grew accustomed to over the years. Even if he wouldn't say it, Dimitri was disgusted and afraid. What he didn't know was that I was just as afraid as he was.
I let out a long sigh and laid back on the bed with my arms folded under my head. Dimitri had finally calmed down enough to sit in the chair next to the window. The room was filled with an awkward silence that spread until it engulfed my thoughts and ran the risk of driving me crazy.
" I'm afraid too." I say when the silence becomes unbearable. Dimitri doesn't respond, just continued to stare out the window. I get up and cross the room, Dimitri looks at me as I stand over him. Apprehension and concern is still etched across his face. I don't know how else to explain to him that everything will be fine. "Look, I'm afraid as well but what do you want me to do. Its in my nature, this is who I am and I can't change that and honestly if I could I would but like I said, I can't."
Dimitri looks me in the eye and nods, "You're right, this is just the first time I've ever had to deal with something like this. There's never been anyone like you at this school before," he said standing to his feet. I stepped back to give him his space as he wiped off his pants and cleared his throat. Dimitri was now the calm and collected man that I had met earlier that day but I could still sense the overwhelming confusion that he felt. "I will handle the situation and talk to the headmaster about making some accommodations for you and your....hunger."
I felt a wave of relief wash over me as Dimitri walked by and opened my bedroom door,"Go to sleep and be up by 8 o'clock for breakfast. Classes start at 9:30."
Before I could respond the door was shut and I was left in a room that looked just like the one I had at home, blood stained clothes, and haunting silence. I decided to solve two of the three by changing into sweat pants and a clean t-shirt before crawling into my bed. Sleep followed soon after.
