The room was small, correction, very small. Couldn't be bigger than 5ft by 5ft. There was a rickety old bunk bed on one wall, a small dresser with two shelves above it on another, and a bay window with a few blue pillows on the wall between them. Fairy lights hang over the window, where a red haired girl sat, reading a book.
She had a flowery dress that looked like it was puked on by a unicorn. Everything about her said, "Hey! Look! It's your average popular kid!".
"Er, hi?" I said. The girl looked up to me, a moment of surprise flash before her face. Then a glare set in.
"Oh. Hi." she answered briefly, looking back at her book. Okay, rude.
"Did you pick a-" I started.
"I called top bunk." she states, with a weirdly cheery tone that didn't match her at all. I scowl in confusion.
"Why are you-"
"Rude? Oh I don't know? Maybe it's because your hanging out with Felix? You know the boy who is yet to ask me out? The guy I liked since we started kindergarten? Yeah! But it's probably not that huh?" she interrupted sarcastically, taking her book and storming out the door.
Great way to start the year as a now enemy to my first roommate. Good job Mari! I roll my eyes, plopping down onto the second bunk bed, head first, groaning as I do.
I don't remember falling asleep. But I woke up sometime around midnight, I'm guessing. My phone kept buzzing. The text was from Corey.
Corey: Where are u?!?!
Corey: MARIANNE ANSWER THE PHONE NOW MISSY!
Me: COREY CHILL
Me: I'm okay
I then told him everything that was going on. He didn't seem to believe me until I showed him my photo of the school, and one of me to prove I wasn't kidnapped.
Corey: Yeah, I still don't think that it's true but okay.
Me: Corey...
Corey: Kidding, be careful out there kiddo. Call meh! :-)
Me: K, :-)
I got up, walking to the bay window. Opening it slightly, the cold wind made me shiver. Outside, the school was still very much lit up, and older teenagers walk around, shoving each other. I sighed, this huge change is happening to fast.
I don't know, I guess I expected this to happen somehow. Last year, when my mom died, I just started to blame myself for everything. But what happened was Dr. Silent's debut as a Super Villain, an attack at my middle school. I was about to go on stage for my guitar solo at the talent show.
I was hiding in the library before they were going to call me up. Little did I know that the new library lady was also a Super. I don't know why, but she gave me a brownie, and I passed out right when she apologized about it. When I woke up, everyone was gone, the school was destroyed, and a fireman pulled me out of the wreckage. There was only one survivor, and my mom, a lunch aid, wasn't it.
The only two good things that came from the whole ordeal, was whatever was in the treat that the lady gave me saved my life, and gave me the ability to move things with my mind. And that Corey wasn't hurt. So three things.
The only reason Corey was alive, was he was in his third year of high school then. Corey let me cry alone when the funeral started. I hated that day, but I was aloud to hide in my closet during it, which is why there were no photos of me.
Sighing, I climbed back into bed. I only used my powers once, at the funeral. Floating paper airplanes flew around my head slowly, giving me some kind of reassurance that it wasn't my fault.
