Stein was beyond disappointed.
All the dissections he has done on Spirit, while they were fun, proved nothing.
Spirit was completely normal, on a biological level anyway.
Having gotten to know Spirit during their time together, Stein found that the other boy was actually rather strange compared to the other people.
Stein found that he liked this, Spirit was like him, to everyone else they are just weirdos.
While Spirit had been Stein's weapon, Stein had experienced something new, someone who would actually listen while he spoke.
Spirit was the only person who actually spoke to him like he was human instead of a monster like the others do at the school.
Stein began to treasure the moments that the other boy's attention was solely on him, even if it was when Spirit was going on about what girl he was going out with that week.
Just being around the older boy made Stein feel more alive, and while he loved it, he feared it.
He felt like he was becoming addicted to how spirit made him feel.

Stein's frustration only grew as the days past, he knew that Spirit was spending less time with him recently.
He grew angry with every one of Spirit's "see you later" and "we can hang out later".
For the first time in his life Stein felt lonely.
The feeling was foreign to him.
He did not know how he was supposed to act in this situation, so he did what he did best, learn and research all so that could take his mind off of Spirit.

None of it worked, with every dissection it only grew how obvious it was that he wanted Spirit with him.
