"Now for Rubin Carter his case was over looked because of his race; the same reason why he was pulled over in the first place. He lost most of his life in prison. Time he will never get back. You don't have to worry about the same kind of racism today. But knowing the laws that can protect you and knowing how to counter any false allegations that could be put against you will come in handy. It's better to be cautious than unaware."

I always enjoyed Ms. Brown's lectures. They were usually insightful plus she knew how to make teaching fun unlike some of my other teachers.

"Did you finish your Hurricane Carter essay?" James asked, leaning over his desk.

"I have two paragraphs left but I'm pretty much finished, why?"

"I have some of the dates mixed up; can I look at your notes again?"

"Yeah sure." I said handing him my notebook.

"So Max told you about the Halloween thing right?" James said while looking through my notes.

"Yeah he told me about it. It's just another one of his dumb plans if you ask me." I said shaking my head.

"Stupid is more like it." James said laughing at the idea.

"So...why are you going with him?" I asked with a confused look on my face.

"The thing about making money off the candy is a stretch yeah, but having fun while we're out and eating free candy seems like a guarantee to Me." he said with a chuckle.

"Well I guess that's true." I said unsure of myself.

"The way I see it, the only bad thing that could come out of going out tomorrow night is that we don't get any candy." he said with a smile. "Plus Jasmine said she's coming so you're the only one not coming."

James was making a lot of sense. I hadn't gone out in a while and I usually did have fun going out with them. Plus I could always catch up on my work the day after; it wouldn't be a big deal.

"Hey Tatiana might wanna come too. Knowing Jasmine she would feel less weird if a girl was with us since we're going to be out late." James said, making another good point.

Max would be happy about the five of us getting candy for his master plan and it could be fun to go out with them. I was starting to wonder what would be the harm in going.

"Mr. Trenton, if you and Mr. Anderson are done talking I still need your assignment on the prosecution process." the teacher said calling us out over the class.

"Sorry Ms. Brown." James said while passing up his paper.

The school bell rang and all the students in the class started packing up their stuff to leave. I started thinking about the last time I went out and had fun. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all.

James tossed my notebook back to me snapping me out of my daze.

"Come on it's time to go." he said.

We walked outside the class and saw Max, Tatiana, and Jasmine were waiting for us. We walked out to the buses and left to go home.
