I walk swiftly across campus as if this isn't the 17th time I've taken Victorian Religious Practices. The air quickly changed from misty fog to pouring rain. At this point, the auditorium was only steps away. I bolted to the door, threw it open, and snuck through; careful not to let any rain in. I turned just in time to see a ginger haired girl, arms full of books, struggling to open the door. My mind told me I was already late, not that I cared, but my stomach told me to help her. I'm not sure why. Frankly, I wasn't ever polite. I rushed over to the door anyway and pushed it open.
"Hurry up!" I yelled. She rushed through, nearly tripping over the bottom of the door seal. I caught her elbow and helped her regain balance. She smiled and mumbled what I could only assume was 'thanks'. I simply nodded and went down the hall as quickly as I could. She fell back a few steps but it seemed we were going to the same classroom. When I reached the door I pulled it open, but let it shut behind me. Can't get caught doing too many good deeds in one day, dad might think he raised a softie.
The professor was already talking when I entered. I received a glare due to my tardiness. I replied by laughing and raising an eyebrow, challenging her. Heather, also known as Ms.Kenly, pretended she didn't see. Exactly like she pretended she wasn't in my bed just two days ago. That's the fun about humans; they care so much about their public image, yet do so much in private to ruin it. Not even a minute later the ginger slipped through the door and took the only empty seat, next to me. I rolled my eyes and leaned the other way in my seat.
"As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, many girls were often wrongly accused during the Salem witch trials. Women who could swim were often thought to be a witch. They would be stripped of their clothes, tossed in the closest body of water and made to swim. Because the trials often took place on the East coast it was too cold for anyone to learn to swim. If a woman could swim it was because the water rejected her, due to the fact she hasn't been baptized. The reasons just get sillier from there. If you had few children, if you were middle-aged, if you had red hair."
At this point, I looked to my left to see the ginger roll her eyes. I leaned towards her.
"Got anything to tell me, missy?" I laugh as her face twisted.
"Haha. Get a new joke jerkface. Heard that one a few too many times." She replied.
"Uh-oh. Got your panties in a twist? I can help you fix that later if you'd like." I swiftly replied only angering her more. We were cut short by Ms.Kenly.
"Something you would like to share with us Mister Thana?" She said almost daringly.
"Oh yes, we were just discussing ah- twisted undergarments." I snicker after the teacher throws me a dirty look. Shortly after we were dismissed for the day.
I sat back and waited for the majority of the students to leave, not wanting to be in the mix of so many souls waiting to be taken. When there were very few left at the door I began walking out. Instead of going the way I came I went the opposite way, to avoid the rain. As I rounded the corner I heard voices steadily getting louder.
"Come on baby, just come with me." Said a lanky boy that was in my class. He had a girl pinned between him and the wall. She was clearly uncomfortable and attempting to free herself. Normally I would turn the other cheek and mind my business, but this particular girl had red hair. The same red hair that had snapped at me earlier. The same red hair I held the door open for. Her eyes caught mine for a split second and they were begging for help.
"Hey, ease off her buddy." I warned. He only laughed and told me they were playing around, the look on her face told me different. Without warning, I let loose and threw him against the other wall.
"I said leave her be, got that?" I said. I pushed him one more time against the wall then dropped him on the ground. Turning on my heel I pulled her away. We walked until I was sure he wasn't following us. We ended up in the lounge. I turned us towards a table and sat her down, then sat facing her.
