"When will you arrive here Sara?"
"Hold your horses Mila! My flight isn't until midnight."
"I know! but you rarely go home."
"Just wait for me okay? I got to go pack now. Talk to you later Mila."
"Bye Sara!"
As I heard the ending call sound from the speaker of my phone, I realized how much I missed my sister, Sara. She hasn't been home for years so Im very happy to hear that she will be returning.
"Mila!" I heard our maid call me from downstairs.
"Coming Christine!" I replied.
Once I got downstairs, I was greeted by my brother, Samuel, with a pat on my head.
"Here you go kiddo!" he said before throwing me a paper bag.
I swiftly caught it with my two hands. Excitedly, I opened the bag to find out what my brother has bought me. I carefully reached inside and grabbed the mysterious object.
"A pocket knife?" I asked with confusion.
"Yeah! You know... to protect you and stuff," he said as he grabbed the chair at the dinner table.
I stared at the pocket knife and turned it side to side making it shine and reflect the light. I smiled when I realized Samuel's efforts and finally stored it in my pocket. I made my way to the table and grabbed a chair for myself.
"Where is dad by the way?" I asked Samuel before he could even swallow the food he was chewing.
He took a big gulp before replying, "He's going to come home late. There is still unresolved work in the office."
"Oh," I reacted.
After our very quick conversation, I turned to my plate and started filling my stomach. A thought entered my mind as I was eating. When was the last time we've eaten as a family? I tried to remember but somehow my memory of the past are all distorted. I finally gave up and put my utensils down.
"You done?" Samuel asked as he munched on his vegetables.
I stood up from my chair and said, "Yep. Im full already."
Samuel didn't ask anymore and continued eating. I on the other hand, went on my way to the stairs and headed straight to my room. I pulled out the pocket knife from my pocket and placed it carefully on my bedside table. I then laid on my bed and pulled up my phone. I checked the messages I haven't read yet. One message quickly caught my attention.
'I love you sweetie'
I smiled when I saw the message.
I swiftly replied,
'Love you too mom!'
I stared at the radiation of my phone waiting if there would be a reply but somehow sleep dawned on me. My vision started to get blurry and a faded beeping sound was heard. The light from my phone got darker and darker as I continue to lose consciousness. My eyelids finally closed shut and my body fell unconscious. Well... Good night world.
??? POV
'I guess she fell asleep then,' I thought as I stared at the screen of my phone waiting for a reply.
Wiping off the disappointment in my face, I headed to my desk near the window. I grabbed all the necessary files and papers I needed for work before sitting down on my chair. I sighed seeing all the piles of work I needed to finish on my desk. I scanned through them and started working on the most important files.
After finishing almost half of it I decided to take a quick break. I stared at the window to see the wonderful city lights but surprisingly it was not the lights which took my sight.
"What is that?"
