CHAPTER 5 - You must be kidding me

The week has gone by quite quickly, and I've been doing nothing more than work hard to get the teachers' approvals.

It's finally time. I've been waiting for this moment for a really long time now and it's finally here.

I look at the principal entering the cafeteria, and I can feel my palms starting to sweat.

Good lord. This is it.

'' Breath girl. I'm sure she's gonna say your name'', Meg says patting me on the back softly to smooth my nerves.

I want to tell her that it's very possible that she doesn't chose me, but I can't force my mouth to speak the words. I just stare at the principal walking towards her table followed as usual by two teachers than are not the same as the first time.

This time it's the art teacher : Mister Paul. And the History teacher : Miss Mary.

As they sit down on their table, the whole cafeteria focuses on them.

The principal lifts her head to look at whole the students and I see the papers in her hand one last time before she finally starts speaking :

''Good morning to all of you. And thank you for your attention. As you all are already aware of, today is the announcement of the Headgirl and Headboy of our school. First, I would like to thank all of the students that proposed themselves to this nomination. And I can assure you that the teachers and I had quite a hard time making a choice based on your good work. But I guess you must all be anxious to know who we decided on, so without further ado, I will now announce your new Headgirl and Headboy for this year.'' She pauses to make us crave the answer even more I guess.

Come on ! Just say it !

I can't breath.

'' So first, the Headgirl, cause ladies first right.'' She grins a little, '' We chose...''

OH COME ON !

''Nina Reynolds !'' She says loudly. While all the students applause even though I can hear some of them grunt. I guess those wanted this responsibility too.

Oh my god ! Yes !

I hear my friends laughs and cheers next to me as they shake my body. But I can only focus on the principal and I can't imagine how awkward I look with that huge smile plastered on my face.

''Miss Reynolds, congratulations. Could you please join us already, we'll be giving you the informations after we announce the person that will be your partner.'' She adds, and I directly get up my chair, almost two fast, as I stumble a little, which makes every student laugh at my clumsiness.

But honestly I'm so happy and still in my bubble so I don't really care and walk straight to the teachers table without looking behind.

I shake the principal's and teachers' hand, mouthing a 'thank you', when I arrive next to them and sit on one of the chairs on the table.

''Okay now, the Headboy...'' Miss Siegried says, clearing her throat to make the whole cafeteria shut up again.

I don't actually care, who they chose as Headboy, as long as he's respectful and polite. I wouldn't want to work and share a dorm with someone that is not qualified or mean, or worse, some kind of whore like Hayden.

''Is ...'' she pauses, still waiting for that longing from the whole school, ''Hayden Scott''.

WHAT ?!

Everyone is looking at me with surprised looks, even the principal. Did I say that out loud.

Oh my god I'm standing up. I must have looked crazy having this reaction.

''Um sorry.'' I mumble, looking down and sitting back in my chair.

That can't be possible. Why ?! Why him ?!

How is it possible that they chose that guy above all ?! I didn't know he was that good of a student. What about his reputation?!

''So as I was saying, Mister Scott, please join us to receive your informations as the new Headboy of this school.'' Miss Siegried speaks again.

Everyone is cheering for this guy, especially the girls.

Surprising...

I lift my head to meet his eyes, and find him staring at me with that stupid smirk of him plastered on his face.

Oh man. How am I going to live with that idiot.

He shakes hands with the teachers and principal, before sitting next to me without his smirk disappearing from his face.

''Well well, this is going to be fun.'' he murmurs in my hear and I shoot him a deathly glare.

As the principal ends her speech by thanking all the students for the attention again, I look at the table of my friends, my eyes pleading.

Lea and Dylan look back at me apologetically, but Megan is lifting the corner of her lips, looking almost excited as she winks at me. I just roll my eyes at her, like always.

And as for Martin, he looks..I don't know... He looks angry ? Why ?

I'm annoyed too, but Martin is definitely glaring at Hayden. He must hate him even more than I do. I wonder why.

''Are you coming partner?'' I turn my face and frown at Hayden, who is standing up and looking at me smirking still.

I see the teachers and principal in front of him starting to move too and so I do the same. But I keep my frown as I share a quick look with Hayden again.

He turns his back on me and starts walking with the principal and I follow them trying to concentrate and forget the fact that I'm probably going to regret becoming a Headgirl.

'Partner'....

You must be kidding me.

She got what she wanted but now she has to share it with the guy she hates the most in the school. Poor Nina.
