Mason holds Ella in tight hug. She's crying, he doesn't know why. She ran through his front doors and into him, holding him. Mason runs his fingers through her thick hair, wanting to know why she's crying, but keeping quiet. He knows she'll tell him when she's ready. Ella doesn't let go. They stay standing not even an inch apart from each other for around seven minutes. Finally, Ella let's go of him and stares into his emerald green eyes. "They're dead." That's all she says. They're dead? Mason thinks, not understanding. Ella clears her throat as if saying she's not done talking. "They're dead. My parents are dead." Mason's eyes widen in shock. Ella keeps sniffling, trying to hold back more tears. Mason stares at Ella, her ocean blue eyes shimmering in the light. Her long blonde hair shinning like gold. Her freckled face has streaks of tears. Mason wants to hold her again, comfort her again. He can tell it will happen within minutes. Mason stands there, not talking because he can't find the right words to say. Eventually he says "What? How? When?" Ella blinks away tears. "Mason, they're dead. They got struck by lightning. They were on vacation. You know this. I got the news not to long ago." Mason pulls Ella into his arms once more, knowing that she'll burst into tears. Ella weakly collapses into his arms. She wraps her arms around him and cries into his shoulder. Mason wraps his arms around her waist and runs his fingers through her hair, gently. "I'm all alone." Ella says, taking breath. Mason grabs her shoulders and pulls her out, staring into her eyes again. "No you're not. You have me. You can stay with us. You're not alone." He pulls her back into one of his tight hugs. She tightens her grip around him. Mason gently kisses her head and weakly smiles. "You'll be okay." Mason sighs.
