A week.
It had been a week since I'd last spoken to, or even seen Onyx Maye and there was a part of my mind that was starting to think that she'd fulfilled her promise. Despite going to numerous clubs and house parties, I never even caught a glimpse of her.
It wasn't helping that Harry and Louis kept trying to set me up on blind dates in an attempt to help me to forget Onyx. Each one was more pointless than the last, filled with daydreams about a certain mysterious girl with violet eyes. I'm sure they were terrified that I was getting infatuated with Onyx. It was downright creepy, actually. Whether I was asleep or awake, I couldn't seem to get her to leave my mind. It was only on the fourth day that I had decided to start scavenging around clubs looking for her. It was now the seventh and I was getting frustrated.
I rushed quickly down the busy street, never straying far from the rows of shops in an attempt to shelter myself from the heavy downpour. It was no use; I was already soaked to the skin. I sped up, bursting through the door to the quaint little cafe, my clothes dripping with water. I soon spotted the familiar head of brown hair sat near the window, frowning at something which was obscured by the table.
He didn't look up as I walked over, seemingly frustrated with whatever he was looking at. A cup of tea lay forgotten in front of him.
"Hey, mate." I dropped my coat on the back of the opposite chair before sitting across from Liam.
"Hey," he replied, still not looking up, the crease in his brows deepening.
"What are you doing?"
"Trying to- what the hell?!"
"Liam?"
He sighed, looking up. "I'm trying to beat my high score on this bloody game." he then returned his attention to his phone, fingers attacking the screen almost violently.
"What game?" I asked, reaching for a complimentory packet of sugar.
"Jumpy- UGH! I give up." he slammed his iPhone on the counter so hard I was surprised that it didn't break. "Jumpy Jack, also known as the most impossible game in the history of games." he crossed his arms with a scowl on his face as I continued to devour my packet of sugar.
"Niall, you know you're supposed to pour that into something, right?"
"Of course," I replied nonchalantly, pouring a mountain of sugar into my hand. "You know you're supposed to drink that tea, right?"
"Eh, it's probably cold now anyway. I got a little carried away with the game."
"I see," I chuckled.
"So, how did the date go?" he asked, wiggling his eyebrows in the most infuriating way.
I crinkled my nose in rememberance of the horrendous disaster that had taken place the night before. "She was in an on and off relationship with the waiter from the restaurant we went to, I lasted twenty minutes in that place."
"Longest one yet, high five!" Liam held up a hand which I scowled at, and he sheepishly lowered it.
"I'm going to get some hot chocolate," I fumbled around in my coat pocket before grabbing my wallet and making my way over to the long line coming from the till.
"A hot chocolate and a croissant please." I recited as soon as it was my turn. The middle aged lady behind the counter nodded, typing quickly into the till before looking up.
"£2.65 please."
I handed over three pounds, collecting my change and stuffing the coins into my back pocket before making my way back to the table.
"So, where were we?" Liam asked as soon as I sat down, flashing me a grin.
"Don't." I groaned, rubbing my hands over my face in exasperation. "Harry and Louis need to stop sending me on blind dates."
"And you need to stop eating that on it's own." Liam slapped my hand away as I reached for more sugar.
"They're free, and tasty." I drummed my hands on the table and turned my gaze to the window, watching the raindrops pelt on the glass. Once again Onyx crawled into my mind, dark hair and violet eyes consuming my thoughts.
"So, what exactly is your problem?" Liam asked, pulling me out of my train of thoughts.
"I don't have a problem, I just know that Harry, Louis and I have very different ideas as to what is best for me."
"Well, you are going for Onyx..." he trailed off.
"Not you too!" I groaned, rubbing my temples. "What is it with you guys and Onyx?"
"I've just- heard some things," Liam chuckled nervously, playing with his thumbs.
"Really, Liam? You dont seem like the type to indulge in petty rumors."
"I know, but it's kind of difficult not to when everyone's telling you the same thing." he reasoned.
"Still," I mumbled, just as the waitress came over with my croissant and hot chocolate. I thanked her, and she walked away with a smile.
"She's pretty," Liam pointed out, and I looked at him incredulously.
"Louis and Harry put you up to this, didn't they? For goodness' sake."
"I'm just stating a fact, calm down." Liam stated calmly. "You should ask for her number," he said, contradicting himself. He stole my croissant and ripped a huge piece out of it, devouring it in two seconds flat.
"I'm going to kill you," I mumbled.
