kaede let out a huge, exhausted sigh as she placed her last packed box down onto the floor in front of her new apartment. she walked over to the closest window in the room and pushed it open, and the cool summer breeze hit her in the face.

"what a pretty view," she mumbled quietly to herself as she leaned over the window sill, examining the nice scenery from inside her new home. a small smile made it's way onto her face when she saw a young looking couple with their two kids, but slowly that smile had faded away. seeing such a happy family made her think about hers, which resulted in her starting to miss her mom and dad.

"why couldn't i just move back to japan with them...," she said with a slight frown. yes, south korea was kaede's home for most of her life, but in the end, she was a japanese-born teenager, and wouldn't mind going back to japan, even though she'd have to give up everything she had in that moment.

"kaede-chan," her mother spoke from the opposite side of the table, grabbing one of her hands. "your father and i are moving back to japan. your grandmother isn't doing so well lately, so we decided on moving back to help and support her."

kaede felt a sudden pain stike in her chest. "moving? without me? i would like to move to japan too, i miss being home," she said, biting her lip.

"kaede," her father joined in, "you're about to graduate high school! you're already in your first year, and we wouldn't want you to miss your last two years in high school, honeybun."

though it was a good point that her parent's had made, she had no experience of living on her own. would she really be capable of keeping herself alive in another country by herself?

"so, you're saying that i'll be living alone for a year." her parents nodded, causing kaede to groan. "i really just want to move in with you guys. i can't believe you're going to make me stay here on my own."

"sweetie, it'll be a good experience for you. why don't you just give it a try?"

"stinking mom and dad," she rolled her eyes and backed away from the window. she walked over to the big pile of boxes clumped up in the corner of her small living room and stared down at them with her hands on her hips.

"so much things to unpack but so little energy...," the girl's voice trailed off as she heard the sound of heavy footsteps and a door opening.

'across the hallway?' she guessed as she sneakily walked over to her door and peeked through the slightest opened crack. it seemed that someone was moving in one the same day as her and also appeared to be around the same age as her. 'i mean, he looks pretty young.' being the friendly person she is, she opened the door and went across the hall to introduce herself.

after knocking three times on the slightly opened door, kaede cleared her throat and began to speak, "are you moving in today too?"

the girl's voice startled the young man and he turned around once he placed something onto the wooden floor. her doe eyes instantly met with his eyes, suddenly sending her into panic mode.

"holy shit."
