The tips of my fingers were cold. Too cold that they were starting to feel numb. I hug myself and lick my chapped lips. I hated the ugly yellow light that was beaming off the grey room. I squint my eyes as I look over at the detective in front of me and watch as he goes through the vanilla folder in his large hands.

Besides the fact that I was starting to shiver, my whole body began to ache, painfully. I look down at my shirt, drenched in water, and mud, and see the dry drops of blood that are not mine.

Not mine.

The thought made my throat burn and feel sick to my stomach.

"Alright Morgan, I'm going to ask you to cooperate with me and answer a few questions."

He closed the folder and carefully place it on the metal table. I don't why but I couldn't tear my eyes away from it. I knew what was in it.

We both knew.

"I—"

"Why did you have Emma's Stone diary?"

A week earlier

I woke up earlier than usual when my mom came into my room yelling. Her yelling made it difficult to understand her.

"Mom stop—Mom!"

Jerking out of her thoughts she looks at me with those brown eyes. They were panicked. Her lips are shivering slightly and her face shows nothing but terror.

"Mom?"
I slowly get up and walk towards her. But even I felt my heart racing. This was so unlike her.

"Honey—hon do you know what happened last night."

"What?" My mind instantly went back to the chilly night of a football field with loud cheers surrounding me. The sky was clear and the moon was surprisingly bright since for the past few days all we've been getting was nothing but rain.

Before I could ask her anything else she grabs me by my small frame forcing me to look at her. "Did you see anything suspicious? Was there anyone with you? Did you see Emma by chance?"

I try to shake the uncomfortable feeling in my stomach by laughing but it quickly dies when I realize the atmosphere had no room for even a chuckle.

"I don't get why you even bring up our neighbors I haven't even spoken to her since elementary school. I'm sure she was with her boyfriend throughout the whole game."

She loses her grip and looks at the floor. "I know— I just thought you knew something because she's all over the news right now."

Without a beat, I rush out of my room into the living and see my dad watching the news playing on our screen tv.

'17 YR OLD EMMA SCOTT WAS FOUND DEAD AT BROOKSTON CEMETERY'

A picture of her is displayed on tv and my heart stops.
