After getting ready, Jesse went straight to the kitchen, being guided by the smell of that fresh made coffee.
She sat down beside Max and watched him making circles with cigarette smoke. Although she didn't liked the ideea of her best friend smoking, she somehow understood the many reasons why he was smoking in the first place.
Knowing Maxes background family problems, his parents split up when he was the age of 14.
Although he didn't wanted to show, he was breaking apart. He always wanted to seem tough, unbreakable but deep down life wasn't all that pink as it seemed.

Sitting at the maple wood table, sipping silently from the mug she had in her hands, she spoke up breaking the silence.
J-Soo, Max..how's your mom? I haven't seen her lately.
M-She's been out of town for two weeks now for some business stuff.
J-Oh, that's cool, architecture stuff ?
M-Yeah, Dads company's building some houses and needed an expert to make the blueprints.
J-That's good, at least they are collaborating on business part.

Although Maxes parents were divorced, they always tried keeping a good relationship, maybe they're trying to make him understand that no matter how relationships work out trough time, you have to remain human after all, and respect each other's decisions.

Jesse knew pretty much everything about Max and his family, and not just because they lived next door, but mosty because Max told her everything he's been trough, and every "secret" he couldn't talk about with his parents, although they were pretty open minded to everything.
Sometimes she felt bad for not being totally honest with Max, like he did. She had one little secret she hasn't told anyone, but I think you guys already guessed her "little secret" at this point.
