"Don't you fucking move, they'll see us..."
He huffed in a low voice to her as they sat with their dirty backs against the cold concrete wall.
"If those law goonies catch us we won't make it out."
His grey eyes pierced into her own as he stared into her. She was panting, and sweat glittered on her forehead. They ducked their heads down to the dirt ground when far away sounds of friendly banter started to trickle into their ears. She rolled her eyes, hearing those sick bastards chattering about their 'hard work' and how tired they are of cabbage soup.
"Those fucking pigs..."
She muttered.
He reached over and lightly flicked her on the head, then put his finger over his lips, silently telling her to be quiet. The guards turned and gave the area a half-ass once over, then turned and walked away, hobbling on the gravel. They heard the sounds get closer before they passed and once again became distant.
He checked out, then slowly rose from his crouched position and took her hand in his. She felt his rough and cold skin against her soft dirty palm. He held her hand softly, and a small boiling emotion made his stomach churn. 'I can't let this bother me now..' he thought, wanting only to escape the hell hole they were forced to live in.
His head tilted slightly, signaling to a large locked -but scalable- fence gate. Her eyes met his and silently agreed. It was as if they were on the same brainwave. They knew what eachother thought.
Her movements matched his and they both kept their bodies hunched over. It was pitch black, and they needed to get out before the sun rose. Taking careful steps, they made for the gated fence and scaled it, escaping the quarantine.
With a thud of their feet, the alarms behind them started to squeal. He looked at her and smiled softly. His right k-9 tooth was chipped away at, she noticed. It was the first time she'd seen him smile, but she loved it.
