No One Wants to Die

I had classes with Lucifer for every day for what I estimate to be three weeks. He'd come back once more, and I could tell that the class was coming to a close, when something out of the ordinary happened.

The room filled with a bright light, nearly blinding me. I cried out and shut my eyes. Lucifer didn't seem to be affected, from what I could ascern with my other senses. "Lucifer, brother, you have stolen something that does not belong to you," a voice said. I couldn't tell whether it was male or female, but it was loud, and I wanted to cover my ears, but I was strapped to a table and couldn't. "She chose to side with Hell, Micheal," Lucifer says. "But she did not know what you were to do with her," Micheal, or, at least, I'm assuming it was Micheal, replied.

"No, she didn't. But that's a risk she has to take," Lucifer argued. I felt the room around me shake and heard something crack and something else fall. "No, brother, it wasn't. Give her up peacefully or I will take her by force," the voice ordered. Lucifer sighed, like a child that resigns itself to not getting it's way. "Fine. Take her. I was starting to get bored with her anyway."

The ground started shaking, the light seemed to get brighter, and I felt pressure in my head. I screamed, arching my back off the table...but I wasn't on the table anymore. It felt like...grass underneath me. The pressure faded slowly, as did the light. "You can open your eyes now, little one," a man's voice told me. Hesitantly, I did just that.

I was in a meadow. I couldn't see anyone else, and the sunlight hurt my eyes, but it wasn't unbearable. I still was unclothed, and I still had all my injuries. "Where am I?" I ask. "I've brought you to Heaven. You are the savior. Do you want to know how you can save the world?" the voice asks. I stand up, continuing to look around. "How?" I ask, although I don't really care.

"Agree to stay here, in this meadow, forever. We'll return to you everyone you've lost. But you can't go back to Earth. You will die, but you will feel no pain. Your scars will fade. You will be born again," the voice offers, soft and coaxing. "And if I don't accept your offer?" I ask. The voice hesitates. "Well, you'll be returned to the cave you lived in on Earth at the moment of your depature. You'll have all of your injuries and we will not be able to clothe you."

I don't say anything. I don't even really consider. I might be numb, but I don't want to die. I want to feel something. "Will you die and save the world, Anastasia?" the voice asks, quiet but insistent. I pause.

"No," I answer, "I won't. It's not my job to save the world."
