Lyra felt as though she was floating. She no longer felt the burning of the stone. She tried to open her eyes but was too exhausted to do so. She relented and let the cool feeling wash over her.

Above her stood a woman with massive wings. Her body was enveloped by a crimson light preventing any of her features from being seen.

"Foolish girl. I hope you understand what you have just done. What comes next is up to you."

The woman's form grew brighter before she turned into a stream of light and entered the girls chest just below her collarbone.

"Let's hope that you won't get us all killed."

Lyra shot up awake, sweat beaded on her forehead. She glanced at her hands to see if there was any damage from the stone and instead noticed markings on them.

Having studied these runes in school, she knew what they were. The one in her left palm was the rune of protection and the rune in her right was the one of destruction.

Trailing upwards along her arms were even more runes, she recognised some elemental runes among them. They traversed over her shoulders and led towards her chest.

There on her sternum was the crimson stone. Around it was a rose shape. The stone pulsed with energy almost like a heartbeat.

Looking around she noticed that she was not in the chamber were she used the stones power, nor did it feel like the cool void she was drifting through afterwards.

No...it was her bedroom, back home. She recognised the walls, having chosen the sky blue paint herself. She recognised the bookshelf, filled to the brim with tomes and old storybooks.

She stared in disbelief at room.

She was home.

She was finally home.

She would have thought all that happened was a dream, but the stone embedded in her chest pulsed and reminded her that it was all real.

As it finally sunk in that this was indeed real, a smile crept onto her face.

"It worked. IT WORKED!!"

She jumped out of bed, a brilliant smile on her face and headed towards the door.

She opened and made her way to the living room.

"Mom!! Dad!! Jamie!! Are you here?!"

No one answered her. Then she heard a knock on the door.

"Coming."

She made her way to the front door, the person kept knocking and it began to annoy Lyra.

"Keep your pants on I'm on my way."

She opened the door, about to yell at the person disturbing her peace.

"What do you-"

Her eyes widened as she looked at the person standing in the doorway.

Strawberry blonde hair pulled into a French braid over her shoulder. Her skin a light tanned colour. She wore a yellow sundress that flowed down past her knees and a pair of open toed slippers.

Lyra thought that this was a trick but when she gazed into those piercing green eyes she knew that this was real.

She began tearing up. All she did, all she sacrificed, it was worth it. She was back.

"Hope..."
